Hey it's me again
I'm going to sound like pretty much every self care post on this HellSite™ but I really think it needs to be said since I recently went through a situation where I needed this: it's okay to step back from a seemingly good relationship if it's overwhelming or something bad happened and you need a minute. My friend, someone who I've been best friends with about a year, really hurt me recently when I got into a relationship. She talked about me to another one of my closest friends.
And it sucked! And at first I just denied it, I said "oh that's just how she is, it'll blow over." But it wasn't okay. It really hurt me and when I talked to my friend about it, all that came up were excuses when in reality, she's been pretty rude to me for a while. So I decided that I needed some time to just chill without her so I could have time to heal. I explained that we were still friends, I just needed a minute.
And when I told her that, she started saying that I was being unfair to her and that she hated me for doing this and that she was sorry. And who knows, maybe I was being unfair. But all I know is that I didn't want to talk to her and that's okay. I needed a minute to just focus on me.
Now there are some things that are going on here that kind of go against a few ideas about how friendships and relationships should work. And trust me, I'm no expert on either, but I think in today's world we see a lot of the whole "friends before your relationship" ideal in which you value your friends before your partner, but some people don't realize that friends can be toxic.
I know for a fact that I'm not letting my friend get between my relationship because I'm dating a great person. It's my friend who is acting like the world is ending because I'm not spending as much time with her. She always made me feel bad for being in a couple with someone and showing that I was in a couple with PDA or whatever. I'm here to tell my very very few followers (which is fine I'm here for the memes tbh) and anyone else who sees this that if your friend keeps insulting you or your partner or your relationship in a joking way but it still hurts you or makes you worried for your partner, tell your friend to stop. Just because they're your friend doesn't mean you should listen to everything they say and let them slide when a joke makes you uncomfortable.
Along with that, my friend kept telling me that if I was truly her friend, I would've stayed and talked it out instead of just "cutting her off". I explained once more that no one was cutting her off, I just needed to step back for a while. And that's okay!!!! It was going to stress me out to talk it through with her at that very second, so I didn't.
I think, in today's world, everyone is really concerned with being a bad bitch and not taking anything from anyone and confronting your problems immediately. That's super duper awesome, and I actually am trying to have that mentality going into February and the rest of 2019. But in the midst of that "I'm a bad bitch, you can't kill me" idea, please keep in mind that there has to be a time that you step back and chill for a little bit because if you don't it's going to burn you out and stress you out. So please take care of yourself!! And don't worry about what everyone's going to say about you needing time for yourself. If it's good for you to not talk to someone for a while and just think about shit, then def do that.
