Kronika

So Mortal Kombat 11 is going to introduce a new villainess called Kronika. She has time-based powers and if the trailers are any indication, her goal is to merge the two existing timelines of the MK universe in order to reshape it how she sees fit. She also lives in a strange pocket dimension full of mechanical-looking things and being a Mortal Kombat character, she uses K’s instead of C’s a lot...

Kalling it now, Kronika is Ultimecia.

I’m old enough that when I first read “Time Compression” in FFVIII, all I could think was that Ultimecia was just super pissed that she has a ton of BetaMax home movies. Maybe that’s why she can’t remember her childhood. 

(Also: despite hearing the term a lot in the early 80s, it was weirdly difficult for me to find a non-FFVIII reference to it, so if nothing else she seems to have succeeded in reclaiming the term!)
