Jane lay in the couch. She couldn't sleep. She had tried, she really had, but she had something on her mind. It was just a normal day. And she remembered the event a few years ago, so long ago, so far away, yet such vivid flashes in her mind. She was drawing two tall buildings by the light of a streetlamp outside the window. A loud rumble reverbrated through the sky. A flash of light, then darkness. No light, not even from the streetlamp.

"Ugh"

The word did not leave Jane's lips. She jumped when she heard it. It couldn't be Dirk, she would've freaked out about the lightening by now. It didn't come from above her, so it coudn't be the neighbor se could hear Rox storing loudly round, so no dice. She forgot about her drawing, staring futilely into the darkness pressing around her. 

"Dave?" she whispered. She waited. Then- "...Jane?"Dave woke up from his nap to find the girl looking at him. By the faint lighty, he could see his best friend's sad face. Without a word, he stumbled and sat down on the couch next to her to wrap his arms around his friend. They both leaned back against the pillow, huddling in the cold. Jane shivered.

"Hey, it's worse for me, I'm all little and defenseless! Meanie Mr. Jack Frost is trying to kill me," he whined dramatically. Jane cuddled him closer, grinning."Aww, poor ickle Davey!" Her comment earned her a nudge in the side from Dave's sharp elbows. "Hey!" She nudged him back, resulting in a nudge-war.  Both of them were giggling like little girls, but still Dave shushed the girl. He ruffled Jane's hair and the shorter girl snuggled under her friend's arm while it was raised. Dave held her close to his chest."You little girl," he teased, but kissed the top of her head.They both fell asleep as they had a nice cuddle session and waited for the rain to end.
