The American left has almost no political power. The entire conversation has shifted rightward since 1980, as predicted by broken clock Barry Goldwater, and what most call the left is barely even the center. The issues that are important to the American left are of no concern to the vast majority of American voters, which is why we have to be so loud and so active to get even the smallest bit of what we want.

Absolutely. And honestly, we can't tell anything about how the current campaigning will pay off during primaries because the Republicans currently paying attention, aside from those who are running and/or paid to pay attention, are the hardest core of base Republicans and not the majority of the party. These people wouldn't have supported Romney among a large pool of candidates either, but they did on election day.
