Can i ask how and what materials you used for your hermit heads? You dont need to go into like heavy details but im curious if you had any recommendations because I was going to attempt to make a MCYT head myself for a convention :]

the materials I used for the box were:

dollar tree acrylic paint

a 12 x 11 inch cardboard box (i cut another inch off to make it square shaped)

for the bangs and inner helmet i used the extra flaps on the side off the cardboard box

electrical tape (not necessary, I just wanted to cover the edges but it does leave a residue)

packaging tape

an old pair of ratty tights my sister let me use

hot glue

spray on sealant (to seal the paint)

For the nametag i cut out the side of a spinach plastic container and traced the name out in sharpie and found two pens that were from the same brand, took their springs and attached the springs and tag with hot glue

(note: if you live in a hot climate i would recommend super glue instead, my name tag melted during the convention and I had to take a quick stop at cosplay repairs)

I followed both of these tutorials by Elytradragon and notgracelive on how to plan, paint, and how to assemble the helmet inside

basically with the helmet you want your head to be squished so when you make sudden turns or nod your head your box doesn't go flying off

recent addition is adding a chin strap via a headband i got when i had my wisdom teeth yoinked to further prevent the box from falling off

Im really sorry that happened!! I know one thing that im going to do as a counselor/therapist is advocate and fight insurance companies for "necessary" monthly meetings at the very least if i have someone as a patient on a medication. In america there is somewhat of a requirement so you can keep tabs and adjust medication as needed, and im glad that at least you were able to get that fixed as you got older. Keeping an eye on doses, esp as you are actively growing as a child, is really important and again im really really sorry that was your experience :(

it wasn't an insurance thing. im in canada, so it wasn't that. i regularly spoke to my GP about the medication (as she was the prescribing doctor) and about all my meds, actually. my parents were also spoken to to get an outside view of how i was managing stuff. so i just didn't see a specialist for it, i just saw my GP (who was awesome and I miss her so much). i do have a therapist but she's not a prescribing doctor for me

from what ohear about the united states healthcare system (i believe that's where you're from? sorry if wrong) it's absolutely fucking wild. i got hospitalized for seizures and texted some friends "hey might be out of it for a bit, in hospital" and the first thing my american friend texted me back was "DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE/MONEY". and i just sat there like. bestie. that is the least. of anyones. concerns right now. they are trying to figure out if imma die. (i didnt die. all good!)
