A Sure Promise

He hadn’t been intending to creep up on her, really he hadn’t. It was late, and it wasn’t like this place had the luxury of multiple shower rooms. Neil had assumed that he was alone since the place had been empty when he walked in, and that much he was thankful for considering where he had been that evening.
Where had he been? A party. More specifically one he hadn’t been invited to attend. It wasn’t anything upscale, so getting inside had been the easy part. Doing his job and getting out... Well... Neil was just grateful public showers existed. No one looked for blood evidence in public showers, and by the time they would think to look, someone had already cleaned it six times with industrial strength bleach.
With that peace of he had stowed his gear in a discrete gym bag before going to wash his clothing and himself up. Perhaps that’s where he went wrong; taking the time to rinse and wash the blood spattered clothing in the showers before himself.
By that point Neil had politely turned away, giving the woman a moment to make herself decent. He wasn’t wearing much more than boxers himself, his wet clothing in a plastic bag, ready to be thrown into the dryer once he got back to his flat.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to sneak up on you, miss.” His tone was casual, friendly with a flash of a smile that could be heard in his voice alone. Disarming. It could be noted that he had his right eye closed, a green crescent just beneath, high on his cheek. He had a mark too.
