Timmy Willie was a little country mouse who went to town by mistake in a hamper."- Beatrix Potter, The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse (1918)      The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse is my favourite of the Beatrix Potter tales, and Timmy Willie is, probably, my very favourite of all her characters. The illustrations in this tale are soft and gentle, the way most of Potter's drawings are. They convey a sense of soft nature, of the fields, pastures, and country gardens of rural England and The Lake District.      "One place suits one person. Another place suits another person. For my part, I prefer to live in the country, like Timmy Willie."
