The Hanging Of Timothy Evans
Timothy Evans was hanged for killing his wife Beryl and daughter Geraldine in 1950. He was, however, innocent of those crimes, which wouldn't be proven for more than a decade.
When Beryl and 14-month-old Geraldine were slain, police focused their entire investigation on Evans, who actually confessed to the crime. He was a nervous man who was known to drink, and the authorities posited he'd done away his pregnant wife and their child over money.
The crime actually took place at the hands of John Christie, a WWI veteran who testified against Evans at his trial. This didn't come to light until 1966, when it was discovered that Christie was a serial killer. The Evans family lived in the same building as Christie and, in 1949, he may have been approached by Beryl for an abortion. It's possible that after Beryl died during the procedure, Christie killed young Geraldine, as well.
After Evans's execution, Christie moved out of the building. Years later, the new tenant smelled the decaying remains of three additional women Christie had killed and hidden behind his kitchen cabinets. More bodies were found in the yard, including Christie's own wife.
Britain ended the practice of capital punishment after one of the unjust execution of Timothy Evans for the murder of his wife and daughter. Evans accused his neighbor of committing the crime, who was discovered to be a serial killer years later. He had killed six other women. Photo : walesonline.co.uk

John Reginald Christie, known to his friends as Reg Christie, was an English serial killer and necrophile during the 1940s and early 1950s. He murdered at least eight people including his wife, Ethel, by strangling them in his flat at 10 Rillington Place.
Terrified face of a doomed innocent- in one of the most infamous miscarriages of justice in British legal history, Timothy Evans was convicted of the murder of his wife and daughter, and in 1950 hanged.
He was convicted for the murder of his wife and infant daughter. During his trial, Evans had accused his downstairs neighbor, John Christie, who was the chief prosecutor’s witness, of committing the murders.
Three years after Evans' execution, Christie was found to be a serial killer who had murdered six other women in the same house, including his own wife. Before his execution, Christie confessed to murdering Mrs. Evans. An official inquiry concluded in 1966 that Christie had also murdered Evans' daughter, and Evans was granted a posthumous pardon.

[WARNING: Graphic Content] (November 20 1924 - March 9 1950)
Timothy Evans’ wife Beryl found out she was pregnant with their second child in 1949 – she was distraught. Their first daughter Geraldine was only 13 months old at the time. Having another baby would mean giving up her part-time job and the family was already short on money. Abortion was illegal then, but their neighbour, Reg Christie persuaded Beryl that he could perform the surgery in his flat.
🎎 Do you think Henry and Winter are going to get married one day? (for both parents)
Autumn: They already act like an old married couple. Why not just sign the paper in the courthouse?
Timothy: I will be shocked if they don’t get married.
