it wasn’t as if the groups were enemies per se, but they weren’t exactly friends either. maybe some were, but lex wasn’t about to sit around a campfire and hold hands while singing fucking kumbaya together. no, he had a job to do. which, did, in fairness, usually mean he saw the same people out and about. this girl, was no exception. he didn’t know her name — maybe she’d told him once, or he’d heard it, but it wasn’t information he’d filed away as need to know, so he always referred to her as long haired girl in his mind. he’d ventured into the city — not that his camp wasn’t in the city, but it wasn’t downtown toronto like the others. it always felt like their turf. maybe they felt it too. but it meant he was more cautious than usual. cities were far more dangerous than wooded areas, he’d found. “seen many?” he murmured, nodding to the girl as he approached.
