OC-tober Day 8: General Oisin 🪻❄️

Oisin, one of my many-many fae characters who I adore So So much. It's a dullahan and a high-ranking member of the Unseelie Court, often at the front of wintertime hunts and good friends with the reigning lord.

Dullahan are typically portrayed without heads / with their heads detached from their bodies. In the world I crafted for Oisin, this remains true! That said: Dullahan can have their heads sewn onto them with a special kind of thread to seal their abilities and trap them as servants to whoever sealed them.

Oisin keeps their head on for aesthetic purposes! It sews its head on itself and takes care of its body to prevent rotting. Because it was never "sealed", Oisin was able to get stronger almost entirely unchecked.

Oisin is seen as a very cold, very detached personality - a strong contrast to some of the more wild and untamed Unseelie court who thrive on the fear of humans. This gave them the nickname "The Winter General."

Oisin cares... very little for the world around them. Their attention is taken up by a single bright point in the distance: the person who saved them, the person who treated them oh-so gently... someone who they want to protect more than anything. It swears that it will find them again.

OC-tober Day 03: Mari Torres 🍊🌻

Mari!! Another half of an OC pair with a friend, Mari is a pretty normal girl with poor luck who happened to attract the attention of an angel who attempts to give her good luck and accidentally puts her in really unfair situations.

Mari is very sweet! She is a girls' girl to the core, very enthusiastic about complimenting and uplifting other women. In this way, though, she... definitely says some very gay things to the girls around her. This will cause her psychic damage later.

Her main associations are tangerines, orange blossoms, and foxes!

She's the oldest of three daughters in a fairly religious household. Being raised Catholic can do some things to you, especially when you end up deeply questioning the ideals that you were being raised with and needing to grapple with them. She moved out of her family's house at 20 and... struggles, a little, to keep herself afloat-- but she doesn't think she would be able to go back to living at home.

Mari wants to do good by other people. She really does try her best! Unfortunately, every good situation she manages to find herself in, she always has to deal with the other side of the coin... the angelic good luck she gets periodically always leads to some sort of loss, which always makes her wonder if the good thing she got in exchange was even worth it.

OC-tober Day 10: Emil Thorsen 🕊️🩵

Emil is on the newer end: she's half-harpy, half-siren and the youngest of her flock. She is a very bright, attention-grabbing person-- by sheer coincidence of being able to literally draw the attention of others.

Emil is one of my characters who I ended up doing a lot of species-building for when making him. Harpies mate for life, but Emil is a bastard who was conceived during a very tense period of time during his mother's marriage and the only time she ever cheated on her mate. Luckily Emil looks very much his mother's child, and so she is assumed to be the child of her mother's mate as well.

Emil's siren heritage is a fun thing for me to play around with. It makes it so that Emil is a beacon in any room that she is in— she garners the attention of others without even trying, both the good and the bad, and this makes life difficult for her.

Because of bad experiences as a chick, Emil learned quick how to be a social chameleon. She has a very low sense of self because she reacts too much, changing herself to meld with the people that she interacts with. Whatever will be seen as "good" or will meet the approval of others, she will change herself to fit. It makes him feel gross, but he doesn't really know who he is without pretending.

Emil loves very strongly. She can be very petty and a bit difficult to actually get close to, but he loves the people that he cares about with an unrivaled fierceness in his devotion. He has to do everything in his power to be useful, to make them happy, to keep them safe— that's the most important thing to them.

OC-tober Day 02: Liao Ruoxuan 🏮✨

one half of a pair with a dear friend of mine: Ruoxuan (also known as "Reese") has reincarnated multiple lifetimes to find his soulmate (and have one of them die by the other's hand each time).

Ruoxuan is the second son in a Chinese-American family. He dropped out of medical school due to a nasty dip in mental health and is currently going through trade school to become an electrician! He's fairly active, incredibly friend, and spends a lot of time out at parties when he isn't working.

He is slightly estranged from his family due to some of his own shame, but gets along well with his older brother who sympathizes with him and his reasons for sort of running away from his problems.

Ruoxuan remembers flashes of his previous lives, and knows enough that he can harass his soulmate mostly for the hell of it-- but their ever-growing list of clashing ideas and opinions about the ouroboros they're stuck in leads to a lot of fighting about it.

He's fairly self-destructive in a way that he refuses to admit to himself, and tries to immerse himself in day to day pleasures to keep his mind of off it: namely good food, booze, and sex. Getting out of the house for community soccer helps, too.
