This actually has a pretty cute story.

My family doesn't do elf on the shelf.

We do Service Santa, which is less of a bribe and more of an encouragement. Basically, service Santa is a little gummy Santa that moves around the house and leaves notes. He gives the kids missions and services to do that day, such as dropping cans off at a food drive or befriending someone lonely at school. He only moves again when they've completed their mission.

For a while service santa fell under my mother's jurisdiction, while my full brother and I were young, wee gremlins. However as our family grew she had much less energy and I took it upon myself to be the magic. This year it's almost exclusively been me. The popcorn is tomorrow night's mission. We are going to invite some friends over so their parents can get work done, and he's going to ask them to invite their friends for a movie night.

This is one of my favorite parts of christmas. I fully believe that if we have the time and energy, we should try and help childhood be magic. It gives me back the Christmas magic I thought I'd lost as I aged.

It seems obvious, but I never knew that popcorn could have a range of sizes. Here, we have miniature popcorn, each the size of a dime, instead of the customarily quarter-sized popcorns.

Guys, I am eating fake popcorn and I am so so so so so so happy you don't even know.

Except it's crazy ridiculously tiny. It's like popcorn for my kid's dolls or something. No, it's tinier than that, it's like popcorn for my kid's action figures.
