I'm one episode into Tip Toe, which I was super excited for because I love British queerness, but am I crazy or does it feel... weirdly anti immigrant?
In Stephanie's speech about the supposed grown man pretending to be a teen, "came over" implies he immigrated, and he's framed as creepy nonce. Zee's abusive roomates specifically being Polish, the line about the "gypsies" being gone so it's safer to walk home, the lack of pushback against Clive's comments about Romanians stealing his jobs. All of it put together just... rubs me the wrong way a little bit.
Which is a shame because queer bar culture, in Manchester, with Alan Cumming? The marketing for this show was really speaking my language but I'm not really sure if I want to continue it
Can anyone else weigh in?
just watched Tip Toe (2026) and goddd is it so depressing
i know its an important massage and its depicting the real growing danger of being a openly queer person in the uk
but does that mean we have to go back to the misery porn of the only verity we got of gay stories up until recently? was it necessary to show a gay man lynched at the beginning of every episode?? and why was the main character's ex husbend back in the closet? and his best friend constantly hinted to be a TERF?
why does it seem devoid of any hope and joy, so hopeless at a time where hope is such a rare commodity?
and anyways, the message is what, dont try to help the young queers because you'll be called a pedophile and killed? dont stand up for yourself when you've had enough?? because the evil polish immigrants and working class man and 'lads' will get you??
i deeply respect Alan Cumming and his acting was great, i also think the actual "discussion" bits and monologues were on point and well written but the actual story depicted? fuck off, i didn't need to see that

I need to get better..and for that if someone with the magic could do a gifset of Melba's croissant monologue I'd be forever grateful 🥲
