Do you ever think it's coming back? All that shit from the '90s? We were despised, but you read the stuff online now, it sounds just the same. Do I think it's coming back? Yeah. It's back, you fucking idiot. Right now, it's here.

Jackson Connor Tip Toe (2026) | S01E01
Jackson Connor as George Goss in Tip Toe 1x01
the casual bigotry in tip toe is so persistent and so sinister. it's not just anti gay or trans sentiment there's little racist barbs in clive that sometimes stick out and cause him to do things like steal a working man of colour's tools out of spite and jealousy. he even takes a jab at leo being a scot despite the fact that he's been his neighbour for 14 years. leo's closest friend is a cishet woman who seems to support him for being gay but in the same sitting makes incredibly homophobic remarks without batting an eye and is openly transphobic. even the middle aged homosexuals are sympathetic to terfs despite them being as vitriolic as they are. having any real negative response to these things is considered an overreaction. most of them are just micro aggressions, but they're all reflections of a mentality that lead to a gay man being lynched.
The scene in Tiptoe where the gay guy is like ‘you (the straights) are the ones who forced pronouns on us! You were the ones who constantly policed those who didn’t conform to gender roles!! So when we finally say ‘ok you’re right I’m not a real man, I’m a woman’ you’re still not happy!!’ Like…he’s not entirely wrong but why are you, the so called progressives, giving into the homophobic policing? Why are you validating the gender roles they’re all so obsessed with?
russell t davies are you also close friends with homophobes and racists or is being friends with transphobes where you stop and draw some sort of line of where you tolerate bigotry and hatred?
Well, just finished watching Tip Toe and that is one incredible TV serie. And it hits home.
Cause the thing is you see, when I came out as trans for the first time 15 years ago, oh it didn't go down well. Went back in the closest. Small town. It was frowned upon. Family, friends, school, it was a big no. Years ago, I came out again, so loud and proud. I was loud, I dressed loud, I laughed loud. Wonderful years.
But in the last 2 years, I toned it down. Survival instincts. Blending in. Tip toeing. Don't draw the wrong attention. I tense up when I hear the table next to me at the pub mentioning LGBT matters. My local gay bar closed down. There's nowhere to go. A part of me wants to fight, an other part is scared. Scared of what? I'm not too sure, but the wind has changed. And such a TV show makes me feel like I'm clearly not the only one who felt it. The UK is changing. We march with pride yes, but we march with almighty courage.
