How to find motivation when the tank is empty
Lately I have been struggling with finding the motivation to complete school work, especially at the end of the semester when assignment after assignment has been draining all of my energy.
If you are in the same boat as I am, try these three steps to kicking a lack of motivations butt. Believe me, you are not going to get anything done laying in bed!
1. Move!
Change rooms and or environments. Most of us students study and work on assignments in our bedroom, but the problem with that is that we associate our bedroom with relaxing and sleeping. So no wonder your motivation level is way down.
Solution: Move! Go to another place in your house, sit on an actual chair instead of working from your bed. If you don’t feel motivated in your home, try going to the library, or a Starbucks. Sometimes switching up your environment and seeing the people around you working will motivate you to work as well.
2. Write it down!
With a pen and paper, not on your notes app or a reminder set on your phone. I know this is old fashion, but there is something so satisfying about writing a to-do list and crossing off items once they are complete. It may be scary to see all the things that you need to do, but just imagine how nice it will feel once they are crossed off?
Solution: Buy a notebook and a fancy pen that you want to scribble with, at the beginning of the day, or when you feel like your motivation. Try to list them in a specific order, whether that be from the most important tasks to least important.
3. Take a break!
Sometimes you just need to take a couple steps back, take a deep breath, and relax before tackling another task. I mostly feel unmotivated when I feel like I have too much on my plate. During your break, close your eyes and imagine how you’re going feel when you complete everything on your list. Taking a break is very often exactly what you need to give you that extra push.
Solution: Take a walk outside, do your nails, clean your room. Take your mind off of homework for the time being. For me, this also really helps when I am struggling with writer’s block. It’s okay to take breaks, it will come to you when
