Cloudy Bay officially launched its Sauvignon Blanc 2022 vintage in Malaysia last week, pairing it with an oyster fest by the folks from @southernrockseafood. The wine unsurprisingly lives up to the high reputation of the Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc range - very fresh and fruity on the nose, lovely citrus and passion fruit on the palate and a very peachy, lightly acidic finish. Austealian wine producers Wynns Coonawarra Estate recently released a new tier of wines they’ve named ‘Reframed’. It comprises four new wines that are an “artistic, contemporary take on classic Wynns” wines. My personal favourite was the Shiraz x Riesling 2021 blend. On the nose, you'll get notes of dark fruits, blackberry and ripe plums, with a lift of varietal cabernet on the nose and a hint of savoury spice. The shiraz comes out more in the mid-palate, with sumptuous fruity sweetness, plush fruits, and well balanced with structural oak and supportive tannins. Daily MCO Drink #738: LA ALIANZA, made with 30ml mezcal, 30ml Lillet Rosé, 15ml gentian liqueur, stirred over ice and strained. Just came back from a Lillet event so decided to break out that bottle of Rosé in the fridge for this. Daily MCO Drink #697: BRUMSWICK, made with 60ml Woodford Reserve Straight Rye Whiskey, 20ml lemon juice, 15ml simple syrup, shaken over ice and strained over clear ice block from @isipadu_icecompany and topped with a layer of Penfolds Bin 8 Shiraz Cabernet 2018 wine. Basically a New York Sour with rye whiskey and no egg. Though some sites say the two are the same drink. Ah well. At least the wine and whiskey is good and combine well to make a really tasty drink. Daily MCO Drink #693: TRIUMPH OF POMPEII, made with 45ml Lillet Rosé, 20ml Fernet Branca, 30ml grapefruit juice, 10ml simple syrup, shaken over ice and strained into highball glass with clear ice stick from @isipadu_icecompany, topped with soda water. Adapted from a recipe found in Difford’s Guide and created in 2012 by Tyler Wang at No. 9 Park in Boston, Apparently inspired by yesterday’s drink, the Rome Is Burning cocktail by Milk & Honey. It’s interesting how a drink evolves eh? Daily MCO Drink #672: CULROSS, made with equal 30ml parts of Nusa Caña rum, Lillet Rosé and Giffard Abricot du Roussillon, 10ml lemon juice, shaken over ice and strained. Hmm this is not the first drink I’ve made that paired Lillet with apricot liqueur. The aromatised wine does go well with fruitier flavours, and here the only complaint I have is the rum is somewhat drowned out.
