I just began a new job at a big, epic pizza buffet/arcade. They are a LOT like Chuck E. Cheese's, except that they don't have the furry mascot characters, and they are a Christian company. (I'm not exactly a Christian.)This company also has bumper cars, mini-bowling, karaoke (Friday nights only), go-karts, mini-golf, and laser tag. A little background on me: I began my new job as a busser. For those who are unfamiliar with the term "busser", it's basically a short-order word for the term "plongeur", or someone who does most of the dirty work in the kitchen, such as dish-washing, sweeping/mopping the floors, taking out the rubbish, or cleaning up a child's vomit. As this is a buffet, the people serve themselves; however, as soon as they are done, we the bussers take the plates from the diners and place them in the carts to take to the dish-room. Then the dishes get washed, and taken out back to the buffet area. We also check on the tables, and see if we can provide further customer service for the diners.I don't have an issue with this job, as the upside of this job is that being a busser keeps me busy, and keeps my mind off of the time, so the time will pass quickly. What I do have a problem with is that the customers DO NOT TIP WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*rage*
I have learned from my boss there that we get to keep whatever tips we earn. This was surprising to me, as most diner/arcades like Chuck E. Cheese's usually require the servers to allocate the tips among the other employees. (I know this, because I used to work at a Chuck E. Cheese's as one of the workers behind the prize counter, and would occassionally dress up in one of the mascot costumes as either Pasqually or Mister Munch. This is another story for another time.)
Anyway, the customers did not leave a single tip. And it was not just with me, but it was with the other bussers, some who have been there much longer than I have.I am not happy about this at all. Look. Tipping isn't always required. (It would be if you had, say, a party of over 10 people for a birthday celebration.)Tipping isn't required, but it is certainly a thing I like to call COMMON COURTESY!This is especially true, specifically if you see the bussers busting their asses just to make sure that you ungrateful little shits have the time of your lives while your in this establishment! It doesn't have to be a whole lot! It could be like one or two dollars! (The places charges $8.80 for lunch after all, and that's well over the 15% gratuity, but it helps us bussers a lot!)As a general rule of thumb, if you can't afford to leave a tip, then you cannot afford to eat out at a restaurant. In other words....TIP YOUR GODDAMN BUSSERS!!!!!!Thank you.
