Star Wars: Squadrons (2020)
Replaying Star Wars Squadrons | Part 3
I've only known them for a day and a half, but if anything happened to them, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.
(That includes my Imperial and New Republic pilot who are not pictured. )
Alphabet Squadron Mentioned in Star Wars: Squadrons
We’ve known for a while now that the Alphabet Squadron books and Star Wars: Squadrons would enevitably feature elements from each other—in Shadow Fall, we even see General Hera Syndulla leave with the player character’s Vanguard Squadron, putting her in place to appear in SW:S.
In the first book, we see Yirka Quell’s defection to the new Republic, and her rise to the leader of Alphabet Squadron. It’s a pretty rough ride, and by the time Shadow Fall comes around, we see it starting to crumble. It’s pretty eye-opening to see the struggles of Alphabet Squadron from an outsider’s perspective, especially when the viewer/reader is aware that Cern Aiden’s personal reasons for creating the group is a big reason for that.
This

where
the
fun
begins...
So even though Alphabet Squadron doesn’t get a LOT of lip service in Star Wars Squadrons, it may be a good idea to read at least the first book in the series before playing Squadrons. It essentially continues on from the first book so you can see what all the other squadrons mentioned in Alphabet are doing. Or, you know, read it to read it because it’s a nice change of pace where star wars is concerned for the reasons I will expound upon here.
With that said also bear in mind the following for the chars from Alphabet, Vanguard, and Titan Squadron (as non-spoilery as possible)
Keo is non-binary and pronouns are they/them Varko Grey is gay/bi/pan with a husband Yrica Quell is bi/pan (established to have had boyfriends and girlfriends in the past though some argue that she was being sarcastic, Freed has confirmed that she is queer.) Wyl Lark is gay/bi/pan (shown to be into guys and possibly girls depending on interpretation of how he responds to Chass and even Yrica to a degree) Grey, Yrica, and Wyl are all people of color. Almost all the humans of Vanguard and Titan are people of color, honestly.
Yrica and Wyl are both described in text as being different shades of brown w/ Yrica as ‘tawny’ and Wyl as ‘olive’ with Yrica being drawn and colored slightly lighter than I’d like because tawny is a darker brown than shown in the comics but still obviously not white
The only one open to any interpretation is Shen, as we never see his face or get any other identifying info besides the fact he is made up mostly of cybernetics (one could argue based on his name but... I wouldn’t). Along with Nath from Alphabet. He looks like he has some (south?) asian features in what we see of him in his lone official artwork, but I don’t feel comfortable saying for 100% but his skin is described as being ‘tinged with brass’ which is often used for folks with asian ancestry especially in scifi (I think Freed actually describes Baze as such in the Rogue One novel but I may be misremembering) in the second book of the Alphabet Squadron series.
