April 15, 1912, 8:50am: Carpathia leaves the site of Titanic's sinking and heads for New York City with just over 700 of the original 2,224 of Titanic's passengers aboard

April 14, 1912, noon: Titanic’s first class passengers were enjoying their Sunday luncheon meal of grilled mutton chops, potatoes, and other choice buffet options
April 15 - 20, 1912: In the days following Titanic’s sinking, hundreds of articles about the ship and its sinking were plastered on front pages across the world. Although the use of telegraphs allowed news to spread quickly, early reports had very little accurate information, including a few claiming that no lives were lost. As the true story began to unfold following Carpathia’s arrival in New York, newspapers began to include survivor accounts and report accurate information about the disaster. Titanic’s sinking remains one of the most widely reported peacetime maritime disasters in the modern era
