gross...eries 🌺
@donghomg, I think Dahui’s bitten off more than she can chew on her monthly food shop.
Four pendulous bags struggled to stay within her grasp as Dahui diligently made her way down the street. Grocery shopping was hands-down the most arduous and mundane task she had to complete regularly as an adult. For the artist who hated shopping in general, shopping for necessities was even worse –– you either meticulously checked off a pre-planned list like a drill sergeant or damned yourself to frantically removing impulse items as the queue built up behind you (the struggling wallet of an artist never accommodates vapid indulgence). Even as a child, she’d purposefully get ‘lost’ in boutiques and then miraculously re-appear with a book in her hands, on the benches behind checkout. The whole ordeal, consumerism in general, was more trouble than it was worth.
As an adult, the shopping experience was lengthier and did not cease until her feet touched the floor of her apartment. The nearest 24/7 store was a good 20 minute walk away and Dahui, forever irresponsible when it came to her own wellbeing, procrastinated and postponed the trip until her fridge was well and truly empty. That meant getting everything all at once and weightlifting for nearly half an hour in the humid heat only to climb up three flights of stairs (the lift was always under maintenance). Her pre-trip preparations, four bags-for-life and comfortable walking shoes, were futile –– she still broke out in a sweat and had to stop every five minutes to rest her arms. Merde.
