Today was a respite from the usual meetings and training. She craved for the simple life, something that made her feel at ease. It was odd that Kai liked weaving flowers together; she took up the habit after watching the children make flower crowns every year around this time. A soft melody flowed from her lips. And as she bent the stems and poked new blossoms into the crown, she spotted someone coming her direction. She looked away from the person but spoke nonetheless. “Flowers grow better when they hear your voice.”
“I’ll never understand how so many people can drink this stuff and enjoy it.”
A Reflection
Whenever Tom found the time, he always enjoyed strolling about the gardens near the castle. It was when he’d sat himself down at the base of one of the tallest trees in the garden that Tom remembered, it was nineteen years today since he’d had his accident, falling from a tree just like this one. “It’s stange, isn’t it? To think about how much we’ve changed over the years.”
Being nearly a millennia in age endowed one with enough patience to accomplish almost anything, no matter how menial the task. Time seemed to pass differently when you had experienced so much of it already. Slower, as though the whole world were covered in molasses. Unfortunately, that didn’t mean that going over ledgers and writing business letters became more entertaining, no matter how old you were.
Nevertheless, Arabella was fully engrossed in her work. A message written to the governor of Illyrium, written in the neat, delicately curving letters of her handwriting. Not a letter of dire importance, but one that needed to be gotten done sooner rather than later. With the Fangs plaguing the kingdom, the she-elf had found herself busier than ever.
The point of her quill scratched over parchment as she sat warmly in a beam of sunlight that pierced the council chamber. Her pointed ears were hidden beneath a tumble of silken gold curls, and she was frowning thoughtfully down at her own work. A cramp was starting in her hand, but she allowed herself no break.
She was so engrossed in her writing that she didn’t notice someone entering the room. It wasn’t until the person on the other side of the table spoke that she realized she was no longer alone — words she didn’t catch. She marked a looping signature on the page, and then finally looked up. Cool blue eyes fixed on her visitor. —
There was a childlike glint of joy in the Queen's eyes as she took the elegant longbow in her hands, her regal gown had been traded in for practical trousers and a loose fitting shirt for the day. Gleefully, Aracelia turned to face her companion. "I bet I can take down that apple!" She declared proudly,a devilish grin forming on her lips as she pointed to a lone apple hanging from a tree nearby.
Today had been going poorly for William. Waking up hungover was already annoying enough. Added on it seemed as if everybody were out to aggravate him today. Then, somebody had poorly tried to steal his pocket watch. After he had chased off the thief, he stood and took a deep breath. Completely unaware of the storm cloud he had formed over his own head, he glared at the person who seemed to be staring. “What?”
Lyra had only recently been allowed to leave her bed. She had been knocked unconscious during the attack at Roslin’s coronation, and the physicians had kept her in a magically induced coma until her injuries had healed. But there was nothing they could do for her memories. She had awoken injury-free, but her memory was foggy. Some things she remembered, put there were a lot of people, places and events that Lyra had no recollection of. Her physicians had assured her this wasn’t abnormal for someone who had been through what she had, but they were unable to tell yet if her memories would return. They had suggested she visit places that she had hazy memories of to try and trigger something to cure her amnesia, so Lyra had returned to the temple where Roslin’s coronation had taken place. It was as she was looking around the temple that she heard someone come in behind her, and she turned to face them. “I thought revisiting the scene might help to jog my memories.”
