Opinions?
Ok so this year i finish my arts degree and i want to do a master degree in animation afterwards, a specialization, but i'm very torn between two schools.
One of them gives you an official universitary master qualification. The other, does not. It only gives you "points" you can if you wanted to use if you continue your studies somewhere else (it's hard to explain how europe's academic system works it's just kind of a mess).
The first one, however (the one with the official degree) only focuses on 3D, makes you constantly work in groups, and doesn't even push you out with a demo reel... you have to do the demo reel after you finish your studies yourself, at home, with what you've learned. This REALLY sucks because i actually want to use this year of master to configure the first version of my demoreel and begin job hunting as soon as i'm out.
The second one not only teaches both 3D and 2D but also it DOES force you to make a demo reel, and even the website lists how many and what kind of clips will they help you do to have a base for both your reel and portfolio. This would mean once you out, you can already debut and improve on that later, instead of having to do everything from scratch by yourself. BUUT... no official titulation!
So let me know, if anyone is studying, planning to study, or in the industry already: how important are official qualifications in animation? I know at least an arts degree is often requested, but does an official master degree give you more chances to get in the business or is it not very relevant?
