Headcanons for how each couple spends valentine's day? Can't wait for the big reveal haha! -TLCSV <3 #13

Hmmm

I think I’ll go more for certain characters rather than couples, because while it’s easy to group them like that, Valentine’s Day is just as much for family and I feel like they’d definitely prioritize this

(Also this is pre-Stars Above bc I haven’t finished it yet)

Cinder, Iko, Kai:

I would think that White Day would be more culturally important to them, so unfortunately there’s no good excuse to pay a visit to Earth or Luna

They’re probably all busy with their duties for the first half of the day, but after midday they take the time to relax and treat themselves. This is one of Iko’s easiest days to take Cinder to the spa

Every year in the Commonwealth, festivals are held, and while Kai does attend annually (even if it’s to pop in for a speech and then leave), most of the time he’s found winding down in his bed, comming Cinder and sharing stories and folktales true to the day of love.

Winter, Jacin:

There were never holidays like Valentine’s on Luna, so when Iko begins gushing about it these two have no idea what’s going on

Once they understand, though, they take complete opportunity of it

Winter won’t let Jacin work. He is obligated, by once-royal command, to take the day off and do romantic things with her

It varies from year to year, but there’s always an abundance of candy and kissing

They also like to join Cinder, Iko, and Kai on the comms, listening to the tales of true love 

Scarlet, Wolf, Emilie, various Rieux people, various Lunars:

Valentine’s Day wasn’t exactly a big deal in Rieux

Sure, they celebrated it, but it was honestly just a passing of gifts and compliments and that was all

This changes very quickly when the war is over and Lunars arrive

When the European Federation began opening its doors to Lunar immigrants, Rieux, and the towns near it, became a popular destination for Lunar wolf hybrids and what was left of their families. In fact, Scarlet and Wolf worked on hand with the government to establish programs throughout Earth. Suffice to say, there were many that wanted claim of the place where their comrade had found home

Along with this new environment, the settlers embrace new traditions and customs

it becomes a competition between former soldiers as to who can give or receive the most gifts, the most compliments and portrayals of affection

Bonus points if it involved uppity townspeople

Giles almost dies that first year from the sheer number of Lunars crowding his tavern, contesting for new friends and signs of approval 

Scarlet finds it hilarious. Wolf participates occasionally. Emilie adores all the admirers that come out of it

Although the practice dies out a bit as time goes on, it remains constant in the Lunar communities to dare to be open and loving on this day, despite all the trials they face

Cress, Thorne, The Thorne family:

Thorne didn’t exactly appreciate Valentine’s Day

It was a reminder of all the love he lacked in his life; with the lavish gifts from his parents, the idolized looks of his admirers, and when he was older, the harping of his lovers for their own tokens of affection

With all the new friends and family he’s made, it becomes a lot easier

He absolutely adores setting up Secret Valentines for the crew. Sometimes he’ll add on random people to the list just for kicks

Regardless of that, he also likes to send tiny little gifts to everyone. Nothing special, maybe some sweets or a drawing, but detailed enough to show how much he cares

He spoils Cress rotten the first year they celebrate. He isn’t allowed to buy her chocolate anymore after she gets sick

Cress adores Valentine’s of course

She’s guilty of ruining plans with Thorne to go to festivals or other celebrations to see all the beauty 

Eventually Thorne just sets up the festivals as the plans for the day 

Sometimes Thorne’s family calls for him

They rarely go

He wants to reclaim this day for himself

Sometimes they join in the comms with Cinder, Iko, and Kai

Thorne’s terrible at conversing with through comm though so they usually don’t (seriously, he’s terrible. he constantly interrupts the stories and messes with his portscreen and both Cress and Cinder lose patience very quickly. he makes up for it with the best anecdotes)
