anyone else kinda disappointed lucie’s powers never got a grand reveal or even much acknowledgement throughout the last hours? especially in chain of thorns with the final battle and what she did to save everyone…she is often just completely overlooked and it really grates me.
from the very start of chain of gold, all the focus was on james’ shadow powers. and then lucie called an entire freaking river of ghosts to save cordelia … and all we got was magnus looking at her intently and jesse later telling her he answered her call. not one real bit of acknowledgment from her friends. and i was hoping that part of lucie’s arc would be frustration at being the “second herondale” sibling, living in her brother’s shadow, embracing her power and eventually telling everyone the truth about her powers and having them realise oh shit, lucie is powerful, she’s been powerful this whole time, arguably even more powerful than james…but literally like none of her friends acknowledge it at all and it’s so frustrating to me as a big lucie fan :/. like home girl has called on and commanded LEGIONS of ghosts, she brought someone back to life for crying out loud, and it’s NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED PROPERLY and it’s so annoying to me !!!!! to clarify i do not hate james at all or anything, just that there was SO much focus on his shadow shifting ability, what about lucie’s power over the dead huh??!
the lack of a grand reveal just felt so anticlimactic and frustrating. outside of jesse, malcolm, and idek grace it’s like no one even cared. except cordelia who felt upset lucie couldn’t open up to her about it (and like on the one hand ok i get the whole secrets thing is the driving force of the plot & ig i’d be a bit upset if my best friend hid something massive from me, BUT at the same time i’d be like ok, so given what we’re discussing here (necromancy) i guess that’s kinda valid why you felt the need to hide that and also wow you’re insanely powerful?) also why did lucie’s adoration of cordelia feel one-sided,
anyway some random thoughts, i just feel like lucie is never given enough credit for how powerful she is and all she did in the series, away from the limelight. i was soo hyped for a herondale woman but she was just not respected enough !
we should have let her name him buford...
TLH Thoughts RETURNS (after a long ass time): Tripped
i finally decided to get back into Loud House after all this time. i heard something about Luan getting a special in November, and Sam comes back next year. that sounds good. maybe time to watch some of these other episodes I thought.
I found myself, in the time I hadn’t been watching it, I growing a lot more critical about it. One thing and what I’ve grown to notice the most is with the animation, which many times feels really, really stiff. It’s not always that but it feels like that a lot of the time. There’s also some major weak spots in the writing (especially in the episode I got back into it with), like toilet humor and an almost obscene reliance on running gags for jokes and most (though not all) of the episodes having obvious outcomes. Sometimes I feel the show can’t do anything really, really original with storylines, often only put twists on ones cartoons have done a million times before. When it does do a storyline I haven’t seen done to death (one reason I absolutely loved Fandom Pains) though the characters allow those to really stand out.
also Tripped. I watched that. I do enjoy a good half-hour episode.
This one? It was alright. It highlights some of the problems I have with the show in general above (in at least one case, accentuates, with the whole Lori and chips scene) but it does highlight some of its strengths as well, like with wackiness most slice of life shows are not willing to go to but retaining the good heart of the very best of that genre. The Road Trip Blues was the highlight and served as a good mid-way point. The starting montage with all the ways the Louds get the money, sometimes showing the problems in how that works, was also good with how it shows great each Loud’s personality and how that ties into how they have their own approach to money. Overall I can’t say it feels like “another road trip where everything goes wrong” episode, it does its own things and goes in all kinds of directions.
Lana is one of the Louds that’s grown on me in recent (for me anyway) episodes and she’s the MVP of this one, good effort and great voice acting from Grey DeLisle of course. Leni, Lisa and Luan also get good scenes here. ("So, he doesn't have his wallet, but he has his cowbell?" "So both definitions of "Ding-a-ling" apply.")
There is nothing wrong with wearing socks with sandals. Fight me.
Also I love this shot because in the summer I feel like this half the time:
TLH Thoughts: City Slickers
This one was alright. I personally liked Lori’s scenes more than Lincoln/Ronnie’s one but Ronnie exists at least so that’s a thing. I hope to see more city episodes in the future! Yeah that’s it. Hiatus time (ideally a short one) I guess. Wayne just finished the entire first season in the UK. US isn’t even half way. That’s ok.
Fool Me Twice later. I’ll tell you one thing. Initial impressions: an improvement over Fool’s Paradise. I don’t know if it’s actually good, but it’s better than that, which is good for it at least.
TLH Thoughts: White Hare / Insta-Gran
White Hare
Well that’s a weird one. I think it’s a nice throwback to the original concept of the show but the episode itself was okay to me, and not really its own episode. Not a whole lot stood out.
Insta-gran
This on the other hand is a lot better. The story here was a lot more of its own thing and there’s a decent new character in Myrtle. Now the question is if they’ll ever use her after this. Same for the girl at the end of White Hare actually. Both are good episodes to follow-up later. The best joke between these two episodes was the thing about Lynn just being in her ninja costume but also Lincoln suddenly having his normal haircut. I love lampshade jokes like that one.
TLH Thoughts: Tricked
Man I love Halloween episodes. I had been looking forward to this episode since it was confirmed however long ago, there’d be a Halloween episode (especially since it’s a two-parter), and I think this has immediately became one of my favorite episodes. Hilarious and it definitely has the Halloween spirit to it. Even if it’s very cartoonish it actually kind of amazes me how blood is such a regular thing on this show. And that works.
The second act especially is just great, with the treehouse scene and how silent most of the scene up there is, and the song. And the animation to go with it. Spooky and good. Just good.
Yeah. Great. Lucy is probably the best part of the whole thing. Her and Luna.
TLH Thoughts: Yes Man
firstly THIS SHOW IS BACK AFTER TWO MONTHS I MEAN YEAH THERE ARE WORSE HIATUSES BUT I THINK IT IS A FIRST FOR THIS ONE FUCK I DON’T KNOW
secondly this whole episode fucking killed me
thirdly luna is fucking adorable
end.
