Designed new Nutcrackers from the Doll Kingdom! Took inspiration from my nutcracker dolls and ornaments for their designs, but I also wanted to showcase the range in their appearance and size.

For now aside from Hans and Hildebrand (the nutcracker you’ve seen previously with the gunblade), all the other nutcrackers are nameless. That may change in the future, but we’ll see.

Hans Drosselmeyer - Nutcracker Form Reference Sheet

Late night surprise! I finally came around to color that reference sheet for Hans I’ve drawn a while ago.

I’m sorry for taking so long to provide a proper sheet for him, I understand he’s hard to draw. But hopefully this will help!

However, I’m aware that there are a few informations about him that I haven’t covered in the sheet about his design. I will provide to explain and update this post with more info as they come up.

His hands are actually made of wood with metal joints, only they’re covered in a layer of foam and fabric. This makes his hands actually soft to the touch and to hold, but a punch from them will still hurt a lot.

The rapier hangs from his left side of his belt. The piece of cloth hanging from its hilt was a string from Clara’s dress that was used to hold up his broken arm, tied to his sword as a lucky charm.

His hair is made of rigid hair/fur. While still bendable and somewhat soft to the touch, it’s rigid enough to look like a solid block from afar.

As for the knee joints and how they behave, think of action figures’ double joints.

I was intending in sharing this sheet for Hans once I cleaned and colored it properly, but it’s been months since I last touched this, and to be honest I’m starting to feel burnt out from drawing nutcracker content, as well as going through an art block.

So, I thought to post the unfinished sheet, since I think a bunch of people would find this useful.

🌎 Culture - Draw your OC in clothes and/or doing actions that represent their culture

The Doll Kingdom's lands are divided between the guardians, of which each one wear their own traditional attire.

Hans was born in the Deer Guardian's land, where it's common to wear warm and comfortable clothes to fight off the cold weather of their snowy land.

So do Hans and Fritz ever get along? What about Hans and the rest of Clara’s family?

I would say that there’s some tension between Hans and Fritz at first, mostly because of Fritz being sure he saw Hans somewhere before, and Hans feeling somehow uneasy around him because of the broken arm when he was a nutcracker.

As for the rest of the family, they’re actually very welcoming of Hans, especially since he’s the nephew of their dear friend and godfather of their offsprings. And as long as Clara is happy with him, they’re happy as well.

One of the things I like about your Hans is the fact that his soul chamber lights up whenever he's really flustered around Clara.

So my question is, when his core bumps against the seal's barrier, does he feel any sensation of it? Like warmth (since it's a flame)? Or perhaps something like a heart beat (referring to your idea of Clara being able to hear it)?

Sorry, I'm a sucker for these kind of details 😖

It’s something that I still need to flesh out better, but I think he may in fact feel something, especially later on when the curse weakens further and he start understanding and accepting his current form. Could be warmth, could be pressure, could be phantom heartbeat... who knows.
