Bony TMJ Ankylosis Release through Submandibular Approach This young boy had suffered an injury to his jaw as a child and had subsequently developed ankylosis of his right TMJ. His mouth opening had slowly decreased to the point where he is now able to open his mouth by only 0.5 cm resulting in difficulty with eating. His upper central incisors had been extracted to facilitate feeding, but he still continued to have difficulties with both speech and eating. A social worker had subsequently referred him to our hospital. He was bronchoscopically intubated as he had inability to open his mouth. The ankylosis was released through a submandibular incision. His postsurgical mouth opening was 4.5 cm. It was explained to his parents that he needed to do regular mouth opening exercises everyday to ensure that the joint did not get reankylosed. They expressed understanding of the instructions. 📞 Phone: +91 44 4294 7222 📬 Email: [email protected] 🌍 Website: www.smbalaji.com 📍 Location: Chennai, India #tmjsurgery #tmj #tmjankylosis #temporomandibularjoint #tmjoint #tmjointsurgrey #drsmbalaji #smbalaji #balajidental #maxillofacialsurgeon #maxillofacialsurgery #india #chennai #tamilnadu (at Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCJFVdGHcfi/?igshid=12p39cp2agn95
