Day 14: Favorite TMNT Movie
So, I think I have to call a tie on this one because, truthfully, which one is my first and which is my second varies by the day. They are literally so close that my mood can swap them in and out at regular intervals:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) and Secret of the Ooze
Most of the time, Secret of the Ooze is in first place but it will swap out with tje original depending on what I'm wanting at the moment.
If I want a more emotional, heavy, feelings-driven story, then I go for the original.
If I want a more fun, humorous and cartoony feel, I go for Secret of the Ooze.
The original has so much going for it. The plot, the characterizations, the overall bitter/darker mood, and just the raw nostalgia when I saw it for the first time. The feelings generated by that farmhouse setting are tangible.
Splinter drops some wisdom bangers in this movie. I actually have one in my therapist office: SOME SAY THAT THE PATH FROM INNER TURMOIL BEGINS WITH A FRIENDLY EAR.
It has my favorite Casey Jones. I adore the arc for Leo and Raph. Their reunion and Raph flat out refusing to hear Leo's apology because he's already forgiven him just nails me right in the heart.
Secret of the Ooze has my favorite movie Don, beautiful chemistry between all the brothers, Mikey being adorable, and it really does feel like a ramped up cartoon episode. And for me, that is just fun!
I also really like Professor Perry. He just has a really lovable attitude. I can definitely see how they initially imagined him being like cartoon Baxter.
Plus, Mikey calling for Leo when he's in trouble? My Mama-hen Leo loving heart!
