late night research: Michael Zulli’s virtuoso illustrations of nature and specifically fauna are endlessly enriching. this is by far my favourite TMNT story. drenched in animist lore and samurai culture it s to me a more compelling and human telling of the classic conflict between the Shredder and Splinter. i find that while the colours they’ve added to these compilations are well done but in this case it most certainly detracts from Zulli’s subtle brushwork.
