i can’t even figure out why- i look at him or think about him and his scenes in the movies and i just feel. kinda. warm. idk if a fictional character can be a security blanket, but he definitely feels like one for me, ahaaa

That One AU I Won’t Let Die

before i get started here, i’d like to mention that this is mostly just my own thoughts about this AU! i don’t want anyone thinking all of this is absolute or set in stone the only way to do such an AU.

these are ideas and plots that i like personally or that make sense to me, etc. i’m open to discussion and hearing other opinions/headcanons!

also if you have no idea what i’m talking about, here are doodles and notes: x, x, x, x

so! some basic headcanons and some rambling under the cut `v`;;

-) i sort of imagine that tigress and po still have their same histories: tigress was adopted from bao gu orphanage by mr. ping and po was found in a vegetable crate by shifu, which means that the genocide with shen still happened. tigress's biological family is still a mystery to both her and mr. ping.

-) i think that mr. ping did specifically go to the orphanage to adopt a child, and he did deliberately adopt tigress bc his heartstrings basically told him to ahaaa. also bc the idea of mr. ping cooing over baby!tigress while the caretakers look on in disbelief and horror cracks me up.

like they want her to be adopted, but they had kind of envisioned a... bigger or stronger parent for her. (and i do kinda like the idea that she was actually still very young, like a toddler, when mr. ping adopted her as opposed to an older child.)

-) also if it was a complete accident that po ended up at the jade palace. like the order was mr. ping's, but there was a mix-up and it ended up at the palace instead. and the delivery guy eventually taking it where it's supposed to be and joking with mr. ping about how he just missed being delivered a baby panda. and mr. ping laughing at that but also feeling... kinda... sad deep down for some reason.

-) po has been trained by shifu in kung fu, but neither one of them really believe he's very good at it. i like the idea that shifu still, even in this AU, doesn't quite understand how to properly train po, and unlike tai lung, po didn't show a lot of promise from a young age. so while shifu isn't cruel or quite dismissive about training po, he probably doesn't make it a huge secret that he doesn't believe po is the future dragon warrior.

and po i think would pick up on that and internalize it to some degree.

-) so i do picture po as being somewhat like his canon self, in that he does have some self esteem issues and tends to poke fun at himself as a kung fu student and a 'fat panda.' but sometimes those jabs would seem very mean-spirited to outsiders, and it would be because it's a joke that's cutting very close to home for him. but he probably would just brush off any concerns.

-) tai lung was totally po's cool, more capable older brother who just. flopped. right off the deep end at some point. po is still kinda sorta baffled and depressed by it.

-) i like po being very interested in befriending tigress, just like in canon, only the dynamics and such are different, haha. she's the new one in this case, and there isn't a lot of hostility on po's end (and tigress doesn't even really know him). i do think po would be a little envious of both her and tai lung, but this would fade once his 'po-tailored' training began XD;;

-) i also like the idea of mr. ping sort of brushing off a lot of tigress's temper/strength problems as a child and beyond as 'accidents.' and she might start to do that as well, bc oogway's line about 'there are no accidents' would just be great there, don't you think? haha idek

-) also po eventually getting to meet mr. ping and the two of them hitting it off without actually being family like in the regular verse. bc i do imagine that mr. ping worried a lot about tigress being alone when she was growing up, so that a generally cheery if slightly reserved panda genuinely wants to be her friend would just. delight him he'd be all over making po feel welcome

-) i sort of imagine that raising a daughter who didn't quite fit into the norm would also mean that mr. ping himself would be a little different: a little more leery about people and their intentions and just generally more suspicious and less trusting, at least when it came to tigress.

-) he also would be more hesitant and nervous about her getting into kung fu, bc i do think he'd be afraid that it would make people even less likely to accept her or to treat her with respect and admiration. he would have to come to terms himself with the idea that her strength is not necessarily a bad thing that needs to be covered up and hidden.

-) he might also worry about her hurting someone, haha. it's kinda funny bc with po, mr. ping worries a lot that someone will hurt him, but with tigress, he worries more about her hurting someone else. but the reason he worries is bc he doesn't want people to turn on her if she does.

-) so, as i've said before elsewhere, i do imagine that this mr. ping would be a little more scattered and just. kind of. frenzied almost. he is a lot more concerned with and sensitive to what people say, and his temper is also probably a little shorter, at least when it comes to talk of tigress.

-) as far as tigress's personality, i think she would be a little warmer than canon, but still pretty reticent and controlled. she would be very aware of the fact that she is taller and stronger than the people she loves, etc. and would probably be very apprehensive with that as well.

she would have been raised by mr. ping to be very careful, but he also would have loved her like he did po, so i think that would have had an affect on her personality. also bc i imagine she would have been raised in a very warm household with a lot of other adults doting on her. um. so she might actually feel a bit uncomfortable with those her own age??

um ♋ What drew you to this muse? and ✈ Is it easier to write angst, fluff, or crack with your muse?

What drew you to this muse?

Eheh, mostly just the fact that he is my favorite KFP character ;v; And there wasn’t already a Mr. Ping as far as I could tell!

I knew I wanted to open an ask blog (which later morphed into an RP blog as well), and I wanted it to be a character I really loved and identified with. I didn't really have to think very hard at the time, since Kung Fu Panda was and has been my main fandom, and Mr. Ping has pretty much always been my favorite.

(He's also one-half of my favorite relationship in the series, which is the one between him and Po, so I also thought it'd be fun to get to write fluffy drabbles, etc. about the two)

Is it easier to write, angst, fluff, or crack with your muse?

That’s… actually kind of a hard question :o

I feel like writing angst or sad things for him isn't really that hard- he does have a somewhat anxious personality and there are clearly some topics and incidents that affect him negatively. My only problem there is that there's... only so many of those topics XD;; And I often feel like I'm beating them into the ground, haha

So, as a surprise to no one, I'm sure, I'd say that fluff is probably the easiest to write with him, and makes me the least nervous, since I think it fits his generally cheery, affectionate personality.

☏ What is the most challenging aspect of playing this muse?

This is unfortunate bc it’s such a big part of his character, but his pushiness is really hard for me XD;; bc in real life, i'm extremely timid and accommodating, and even as I'm pretending to be a different character, it still comes through bc I am also a very nervous/anxious person, haha

So I worry a lot if he's getting too pushy and my partner is getting annoyed by it, even tho I don't really think that's ever happened. Like I’m okay with the other muse being annoyed by his forwardness, but not so much with the mun behind that muse orz

"You'll start running out of money if you keep buying Hai Li cute outfits." Lin shook her head lightly as Hai Li toddled around in her new dress.

“Eh, a start implies I’ve still got time..!”

“…besides, look at her- it fits perfectly,” he cooed affectionately. “And, I got it discounted. You don’t have to worry!”

Though he of course had his own demoralizing experiences with fast-growing toddlers. What fit her today would probably be too small tomorrow. Still, he thought it was worth it.
