Randomly went down nostalgia lane and binged this old cartoon in like two days… and somehow ended up here. And I’m perfectly aware that I’m insane for this.
Woweee! 20 of these already? When did that happen? Anyways, welcome and welcome back to my little series! Today’s character is Toadie!
I don’t like him.
Okey okey I’m half joking! I *didn’t* like him, past tense. I mean. I love Amphibia, and I love its unique cast. But. Did your only MLM characters have to be the evil mayor and his assistant??? I just… I didn’t really like that writing decision, yk? Especially since for a while I thought Toadie was like, a kid (apparently I wasn’t the only one who thought that too bc of the Halloween episode). I now know he’s an adult and that’s why he has grey hair and eye wrinkles and an office job and blah blah blah, you get the gist. At least the WLW is pretty decent though :o. Where was I? Yes! Toadie. Let’s get back on track to Toadie.
Toadie is the loyal frog assistant to the toad mayor of Wartwood, Mayor Toadstool. Despite being a frog, Toadie is shown to actively help Toadstool oppress and embezzle money from the frog citizens (and 1 axolotl). So naturally, I did not like him. I did warm up to him ever so slightly when he taught Sasha how to put others before herself and support her friends in “Battle of the Bands”, but not enough to like, look forward to the guy’s screen time. Until.
“Sasha’s Angels”. Oh. My. Frog. I. LOVED this one. Aside from the interesting Sasha and Anne developments, Sadie and Toadie were the STARS of this one! It was so INTERESTING how Toadie adjusted so little to the war, and seeing Mrs Croaker easily falling back into her combat days and telling Toadie he has potential for so much more. When Sadie got knocked out, and Toadie got beat, he had ENOUGH! He wasn’t going to be pushed around anymore and may I say, this little guy packed a PUNCH! I tried to draw the exact moment he lost it as seen above, especially proud of how I drew his expression :). But yeah. It was great seeing him finally let loose. XP
