#ToastConTestFive - Quotes
Me, taking part in a contest? Yup! So, for this I'm just copying and pasting... but I will be explaining each! #ToastedTHG style, baby.
#1: "My nightmares are usually about losing you,” he says. “I'm okay once I realize you're here."
This one used to make me swoon, but now as I am older I realize how almost haunting it is. To lay beside the one you love and dream of losing her? It's... haunting, definitely. But still a favorite quote of mine.
#2: "At a few minutes before four, Peeta turns to me again. "Your favorite colour . . . it's green?"
"That's right." Then I think of something to add. "And yours is orange."
"Orange?" He seems unconvinced.
"Not bright orange. But soft. Like the sunset," I say. "At least, that's what you told me once."
"Oh." He closes his eyes briefly, maybe trying to conjure up that sunset, then nods his head. "Thank you."
But more words tumble out. "You're a painter. You're a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces."
Then I dive into my tent before I do something stupid like cry."
I always think it interesting just how much attention Katniss pays to Peeta. Before the Games, she didn't even know it was something she was doing - but now? She's learned these details in private, from spending nights on the train snd just being with Peeta. From scenes we didn't even see. I mean, the shoelaces detail? The tea! I want a cut scene from Collins where we learned that. Or a fanfic (there probably is one...). It's just so telling how much she cares, how much she loves him, and it's so sad because he doesn't know those things about himself anymore.
#3: Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway.
It's so weird to hear Katniss talk about her love for Peeta with such certainty. That's why this ranks as one of the top passages, along with quote #4. "I know this would have happened anyway." And I just wonder how it is exactly that she came to this conclusion. That, in almost a fate-like way, she and Peeta were meant for each other. It's just so interesting and I will definitely bring this up again when we reread Mockingjay!
#4: "So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real."
Swoon? Swoon. They got their happy ending! Yay!!!!!! We're all in 😍😍😍 right now, because they get to share many more kisses like that on the beach.
Believe me, there are soooo many more I could have picked! But I figured an almost random tossup was in order, as a ranking? Well, that would be VERY hard to decide, because this is my ship!
Good luck to the other contestants, and may the odds be ever in our favor!
