There is an experimental squawk from the trumpet as the boy warms up his lips against the cold mouthpiece. It’s freezing outside, but the melody that soon flows from his instrument is bright enough to warm the whole street. As he plays, he removes his cap and drops it to the sidewalk, waiting for a passerby to listen to his song.

Leaving the border of the light fields was dangerous and reckless, but Marianne had grown accustomed to using those terms to describe herself within the last year. And she was so curious about humans, the giants without wings who couldn’t fly and were supposedly savage.
It didn’t take her long to come across one, and she quickly fluttered to rest on a tree branch so she could observe them quietly. After all, fae were fictional to such people, and she’d most likely be spotted as a butterfly, if anything at all. Leaning forwards eagerly she held her breath, waiting to hear the giant speak a word.
