Some bonus headcanons under the cut that explain some stuff here (there’s a lot of Hatake stuff even tho I plan on making a Hatake clan headcanons post orz)
Were Kawarama to live, he would have an undercut and a boyfriend.
In Kawarama’s opinion, Hashirama may be the strong brother and Tobirama may be the smart brother, but he is definitely the cool brother. He’s cheerful but a little show offy.
I love Kawarama more than I should since he didn’t get any screentime.
He’s weirdly ash blond, but he digs it because it means he stands out.
Kawarama has mild middle child syndrome. Surprise.
Were Itama to live, he would be a civilian (when the village is made) whose job is to take care of nin animals.
Itama is a kind boy who is good with animals.
Itama is actually a chimera. He was supposed to have a twin, but he absorbed them, which is why he has funky hair.
As stated on a previous headcanon post, the Senju mom is Hatake. Their union was a result of an attempted alliance between the Senju and Hatake because honestly the Senju will ally with nearly anyone and everyone so long as their name isn’t Uchiha.
Hatake Toumaya is a shinobi and she goes down fighting on the battlefield.
Tobirama looked up to her and was very close with her. He goes on to emulate her in more than a few ways as he grows older. His practical nature and quick thinking are all Hatake Toumaya.
The fur is actually from a Hatake coming of age tradition (because Tobirama feels way more connected to his Hatake heritage and was all about doing his mom proud).
So are the markings--well, not as a coming of age tradition. Just a Hatake tradition in itself. (well, at least for one branch of the Hatake.....)
Tobirama’s armor miiiight have been his mom’s because they have similar builds and also he misses her. He’s not a sentimental man, but he really loved his mom.
As stated in a previous headcanons post, Hashirama is a bastard and Toumaya is not actually his mom.
The Hatake words (or word) to live by is “Survive,” at least for Toumaya’s branch of Hatake. (There are two--Sakumo and Kakashi actually descend from the other one, but I won’t elaborate on that here....)
It’s traditional for Hatake in that branch to only have one child and to pour all their time and attention into that child, (quality over quantity which was fine b/c they didn’t get involved with war stuff) so Toumaya trying to cope with having like... 4 kids is hard and weird. She sort of ends up singling out the one she feels is most likely to survive (and the most Hatake) and focuses most of her time and attention on them.
That one was Tobirama, by the way. He might as well have been an only child while Toumaya was around.
Butsuma didn’t start hitting kids until after Toumaya died because she would have fucking killed him.
According to @littlebeebeebird who picked out the name, Toumaya is written as Toumaya = Winter + truth + arrow, or “an arrow which flies true through the winter”
