Announcement: Audiobook and Perfumes!

Today was the release of volume 11 of the Gentle Noble novels.  With it came an announcement of future products coming to Japan next year on April 10th: an audiobook and two perfumes!

The audiobook covers the first novel and is read by Saitou Souma who voiced Lizel in the drama CDs.  A code can be purchased alongside the 12th volume of the novels, which will also come out 4/10, or on it’s own.  It seems that listening to the audiobook will require the PlayPic app, so I’m not sure yet if this is something that will be at all accessible outside of Japan despite being a digital download product.

Secondly, perfume!  There will be two perfumes based on Lizel and Gil.  They will EACH come with an illustration AND a new short story!  Lizel’s perfume is described as “refreshing and elegant,” focusing on the scents of lemon, green tea, and rose.  Gil’s perfume is based on smoke-free cigarettes and the primary scents are bergamot, cinnamon, and sandalwood.

I’m so excited that 1) Gentle Noble is popular enough to be getting all these extra products on Japan!  The series has sold over 350,000 books!  I haven’t posted about it here, but ToBooks (who publishes the Gentle Noble series), also sells a Gentle Noble themed bookmark, postcards, washi tape, and face masks.  2) Audiobook!!  As someone learning Japanese, I’m very excited at the possibility of being able to hear as well as read a novel I’m very interested in and hope to try to translate in the future if American publishers don’t get on it.

Always and Forever

Elijah: (voiceover) Over the course of my long life, I have come to believe we are bound forever to those with whom we share blood. And while we may not choose our family, that bond can be our greatest strength or our deepest regret. This unfortunate truth has haunted me for as long as I can recall.

FLASHBACK-- CADIZ, SPAIN, 1702

[In the distance, a fire rages in a village, while two men on horseback flee from the threat. Inside a cottage, dozens of dead bodies are strewn around the floor, and blood is everywhere. Suddenly, Klaus and Elijah arrive to the cottage and hop down from their horses to investigate]

Klaus: [angrily] Kol! [Elijah and Klaus enter the home and are disgusted by the bloody scene]

Elijah: [aggravated] All of my efforts to keep this family concealed, yet debauchery like this has led Father directly to us.

...

Elijah: We must leave. Mikael is very nearly upon us.

...

Elijah: [unamused] Rebekah and Finn have already boarded the ship. It is imperative that we remain together.

FLASHBACK—NEW ORLEANS, 1821

[Elijah speaks in voiceover to the daggered Kol while he dresses him in fresh clothes and places him in his coffin]

Elijah: [voiceover] I see a change in him. For the first time in centuries, he acted solely for the benefit of another. I believe that young Marcellus, with whom he can identify and even nurture, holds the key to our brother's troubled soul. Unfortunately, Kol, your wretched behavior will only serve to distract him from this auspicious path. Now, you might well consider me a hypocrite to betray you as I have. For his sake, you must sleep. Even I must make certain sacrifices, if, indeed, we are to preserve the precious bond between Niklaus and that child.

...

MARCEL: Are you angry with me? Elijah: Bored would be a more accurate description. [He raises his voice again] Niklaus, please! [Klaus finally arrives in the bedroom]

Klaus: What? What is it? Elijah: [sighs] Remove him. You brought him here. He's your burden to bear, if, indeed, we are to accommodate this little scavenger.

...

HAYLEY: [confused] Were you just leaving? Elijah: To be perfectly honest with you, the presence of all of them here, it's... it's a little much. No, perhaps it's for the best. You should be with your kind.

MARCEL: Gia's proven herself. She knows what she's getting into. So, she's going to be the first one that I turn. Everybody else? First, I need to be sure that you can handle moving up a notch on the food chain. The emotional ups and downs, the solitude, and bloodlust. Imagine hearing the sound of a heart beating, beating, beating, and wanting more than anything to feed. That's what it's like to be a vampire. It's not for everybody. Some folks, well... let's just say it brings out the worst in them.

[Elijah begins thinking about the past before being transported into a flashback]

FLASHBACK—NEW ORLEANS, 1821

[Elijah stands by a piano and watches as Marcel tries to work his way through a song]

MARCEL: [sighs] I can't do it! Elijah: [smiles proudly] Now, you once said the same thing of your reading, and now you devour everything from sonnets to scriptures. So, devote yourself to your music, and soon you shall be Johann Sebastian Bach. MARCEL: But I want to play like you. [Elijah continues to smile at him, which Marcel returns, before they hear the sound of clapping from the doorway. It's Klaus, who looks drunk and slightly jealous]

Klaus: [shrugs] Well, you and Marcellus have grown thick as thieves... why should I be alone?
