OLIVIA COOKE as ALICENT HIGHTOWER — 2.02 | "Rhaenyra the Cruel"
"what are you trying to hide, Anthony?"
With how distant Ellie has been do y’all think Joel Thought he was hallucinating Her being there in the end? like as a dying comfort. Do you think he just wanted to see his daughter again? Do you think he died thinking he was alone? Not knowing it was really her? Do you think he even thought Ellie was unwilling to try and save him? And it was just his subconscious playing tricks? Do you think-
is he supposed to be naked like that 😥
No because like we’ve dealt so much with Jack and the question of worthiness and what society accepts and his insecurities and doubts and fears about it all but can we talk about what Belle says at the end of episode 2? “It’s an addiction, Jack. And I fear that’s what I am to you.” Because we glossed over that way too fast.
Here we see that as much as Jack is afraid that maybe she likes the idea of him more than reality she isn’t immune to those kind of fears either. She’s admitting she fears she’s just something forbidden. Something to chase. That the risk associated with their relationship is the exciting part and once it’s gone and they’re safe he won’t want her anymore. She’s admitting that she’s worried once they can actually be together and the “thrill” of defying society is gone he’ll get bored of her. She’s scared he won’t want her in real life. She’s worried that right now he’s attracted to the exhilaration of them doing something illicit by being together and that the reality of what she’s fighting for, a real and safe future together, isn’t as appealing to him.
And of course because he’s Jack and because he does love her more than anything and because dodgerfox does communicate. He says exactly the right thing. He tells her that no, the way she makes him feel safe is exactly why he loves her. He doesn’t see her as a risk to chase but as the one steady and constant thing in his life. Her and their relationship and his love for her is the one thing in his life that he wouldn’t risk.
