ok so have you seen sonic adventure 2? because what i’ve heard of sonic movie 3 it did a HUGE disservice to sa2, especially for something that was meant to be an adaptation

my main knowledge of sonic adventure 2 comes from a couple years ago when i watched the sonic fandub and looked up the actual games plot, bc i wanted to know how it really went down yaknow? so id say i have some passing familiarity with the plot but not full knowledge.

and yeah after seeing the movie i felt like. ok so with movies- especially adaptations- you can kind of tell when a story’s teeth have been taken out vs when it never had any to begin with. and sonic 3 felt like a movie that had been declawed!!

like off the top of my head:

- from what i know, sonic adventure 2 was fairly solidly anti-military. which was distinctly NOT a vibe i was getting from sonic 3

- was gerald robotnik actually Present in sa2? i don’t think he was? and if he was then it probably wasn’t for the Haha It’s Jim Carrey Twice!! routine

- the movie just kind of felt. unfocused. like there were the obvious Found Family and Moving On and whatnot. but it just. felt like it was missing something

- the thing is that for the entire movie exactly one character has full knowledge of what is going on, and that is gerald robotnik. who im pretty sure didnt actually have any actual presence in sa2!! and while the Not Knowing Things part was likely true in sa2 as well, it just feels. i don’t know. the focus was off of GUN quite a lot. even when team sonic came into conflict with them it was incidental to Stopping The Eggmen

- to be fair i also don’t know how many of my problems with this movie stem from just. that’s what happens when you try to do sa2 without any women. where are amy and rouge. the cops wife is basically treated as the same entity as him narrative wise. she and maria and that one GUN lady are like the only women in the whole story. whether it’s a symptom or cause i think it’s significant wrt the attitude the studio was taking towards the adaptation. i don’t know. maybe im just saying words
