Something I thought was really interesting in ‘I Came By’ was Toby’s relationship with his mother. He really fits into the ‘left wing man that expects a housewife’ type, but towards his mother. We see he’s an idealist, an anarchist, wanting to take the fight against colonialism and imperialism to the people profiting from it, but he refuses to give this same energy towards the misogyny he sees in his everyday life. He talks big game about equality, but refuses to clean up after himself. He expects his mother to do it when she’s been at work all day. He both screams at her when she asks him to clean up the mess he made and tries to gaslight her into thinking she’s lost the TV remote every time he’s angry with her, when he just throws it out. Its so petty, but it is sexist

Really interesting character but FUCK I want to punch him.

I just watched I Came By on Netflix and let just say, Liz (Toby’s mom) must have a lot of patience cause if I told my mom to shut up I wouldn’t be alive making this post lol
