Just for context, because I know this probably seems really random, I'm challenging myself to submit at least five asks a day for two weeks and clearly I've chosen to ask you something! The ask: What makes you love Healer?
The main reason for my loving Healer is Ji Chang-wook:
I’m not sure if I would’ve fallen for the show as hard as I did if someone else played Healer because it’s his charm that makes Jung-hoo so lovable and sweet.
And the other reason are the characters. At the beginning, Jung-hoo is in it for the money and Moon-ho cares only for Yeong-shin. But then Jung-hoo falls in love with Yeong-shin and she with him. And Moon-ho finds out who Jung-hoo really is and…
In episode 19, the bad guys can then use first Moon-ho and then Yeong-shin to force Jung-hoo to submit. And they use Jung-hoo against Moon-ho, to force him to toe the line. That’s how close they become and it’s beautiful.
There’s an incredible dialogue between Moon-ho and his bastard of a brother in episode 19:
Moon-ho: Please, let Jung-hoo go.Moon-shik: The Boss took Jung-hoo. He’s going to take good care of him.Moon-ho: Jung-hoo isn’t someone who can follow orders. If you tie him up against his will, he’ll get hurt!
Moon-ho’s despair when he realized that the Boss got his claws into Jung-hoo - something like that wouldn’t have happened at the beginning. The development of their relationship is a thing to behold.
And then there’s Ms. Jo. Ms. Stay-In-The-Cellar-And-Hide. But when Jung-hoo is forced to confess to a murder, she realizes she can’t get him out of that on her own and she breaks all her rules - again - for Jung-hoo - again - and she gets in touch with her old colleague at the police station, even though it means she’s going to be revealed as Healer’s helper. For Jung-hoo, she does that.
So, besides the beauty that’s Ji Chang-wook, it’s the relationships that really drew me in. Kdramas are incredible that way, they tug at your heartstrings.
