What's brewing at Dunkin' Donuts for fall season
Todd Wallace, field marketing manager for Dunkin’ Donuts, joined Boston Herald Radio’s “Morning Meeting” with Hillary Chabot and Joe Battenfeld to talk about the iconic coffee chain’s new products.
Q: Tell us what Dunkin’ Donuts has planned for next week?
A: We have National Coffee Day on Sept. 29, and Dunkin’ Donuts is really celebrating it big this year by giving everyone a free medium hot dark roast, a no-risk sample of our great new blend of coffee …
Q: How long have you had the hot dark roast?
A: It just started Sept. 22 and they’ve been working on it for a long, long time.
Q: Tell us about the new pumpkin-flavored Coolatta.
A: It’s funny to watch on Facebook when people start to find the pumpkin muffins and the pumpkin doughnut and everyone is helping each other out like, “This is where you can get it, but this store doesn’t have it yet.” But, yes, we have added the Pumpkin Pie Coolatta to the mix and it’s a great product … How can you cure summer-time temperatures in the fall? With a Pumpkin Coolatta.
Q: You also have a new Spinach Artichoke Supreme Bagel?
A: Right now we have a jalapeno jack supreme bagel. It’s very good. It’s a little bit spicy so some like it, some not so much. But the spinach artichoke, which we’re just starting now, is great. Really, it’s just combining a great bagel product with a premium topping. It’s good because you can have it for breakfast but you can also have it as a quick snack on the go.
Q: Would you be able to prescribe the perfect coffee based on someone’s personality?
A: It depends. We’ll roll with whatever the guest says.
Q: What would you prescribe someone with a high-energy personality like Howard Dean?
A: I’m thinking something in the decaffeinated nature, but yet he still needs something bold. So what I would do is get a half-decaf, half-bold large iced coffee for him.
Q: What about former NFL coach Jim Mora, who was famous for his exasperated “playoffs?” postgame rant?
A: Maybe the upcoming Boston Scream doughnut. I’ll tell you the big secret, it’s really a Boston Kreme … I’m going to say two dozen doughnuts. He brings them into the team meeting, everybody gets what they want.

Introducing 'Team Alex' Part 6: "My Guardian Gayngel"
I've been putting this post off for a while now because I knew it would be difficult to write and extremely revealing. However, I think in order for you to really understand where I come from and who I am you need to know about this person.
Todd "My Guardian Gayngel" Wallace
This picture was taken the first night I ever met Todd. I should have known from this day forward my life would never be the same.
Before I met Todd I didn't have too many friends who were gay. My experience interacting with other gay men was limited. I had no fashion sense whatsoever and my self-esteem was extremely low. Todd turned that all around. But, before I get there, here's a little background information you should know.
I came out of the closet when I was 15 years old. I knew that being overweight and being gay was not going to be easy. All the gay magazines like The Advocate and Out had pictures of beautiful men with sculpted bodies. I never saw anybody who looked like me. Being called "fat fag" in high school didn't help either. I was hoping that moving to San Francisco would change my outlook on gay culture. I was right, but not for the better at first.
Walking around the Castro district my first semester all I saw were men who looked like the men I saw in the magazines. There wasn't a fat person among them. Nobody looked in my direction unless it was with confusion. I was afraid of going to the gay clubs because I knew that it would just make me feel worse, like I didn't belong. I had no confidence. The picture you see above was what Todd was wearing the first night I got dragged to a gay club. He blew the doors wide open. He was full of confidence and he had this "I don't care what anybody else thinks of me" attitude. He encouraged me to be myself and have fun.
The following year I had become a Resident Advisor and the person in the room next door just so happened to be my favorite gay ever, Todd. That year was life altering. Absolutely one of the best years in my life, and also the year I first attempted Weight Watchers. Todd knew how to have fun, but when things got serious I could count on him to be there.
My sister got me the scale that encouraged me to go to Weight Watchers. Todd got me in the door. I was scared of going to the meeting. The whole idea behind a support group for weight loss scared me. I didn't want to have to admit that I had a problem. Todd did not need to lose any weight, but he told me that he would come with me to the meeting. When we got there he dragged me through the door. Not only did he come in with me, he signed up. Just knowing he was there and I wasn't alone made the whole experience easier and he knew that. If he hadn't gone with me that day I would not be where I am today with my weight loss. He never went back to another meeting, but just being there the first time was all I needed.
After spring semester Todd moved to New York City to focus on becoming a make up artist. He was extremely talented and I knew that because he used me as a guinea pig on more than one occasion (as you can see from the above picture of him and me). NYC was where he needed to be and even though we didn't get to see each other, our friendship stayed strong. I continued to lose weight through the summer. I posted a picture of me on myspace at the time and it generated a lot of really nice comments, but the best was from Todd.
"FUCKIN HOTT I love it!!!! Lookin all hott like a plus size SUPER MODEL.."
He always knew what to say. I continued to come out of my shell and develop my own identity. I tried to live my life like Todd did, full of confidence and pride in oneself. Two years passed before we'd see each other again. Little did I know this was the last time we'd see each other.
Todd's skills as a makeup artist opened up some incredible opportunities for him. One of which was starring on the Reality Competition show "Blush" on Lifetime. I was extremely excited for Todd because I knew that 1) he was an incredible artist and 2) he'd make great television. I was right about both. He traveled to LA for the screening of the premiere which was the first time he'd been back on the West Coast since he left. I knew that I had to see him.
Todd flew up to San Francisco to spend a few days after the premiere. I picked him up at the airport and the next two days were spent catching up, but mostly having fun. I had gained back most of the weight I lost, but the lessons he had taught me stuck. I was no longer the depressed gay kid he met freshmen year with the low self-esteem.
This picture was the last one we'd ever take together, the last night we saw each other. We talked about Todd's engagement to his boyfriend, his plans to move to LA, and our futures. I drove him to the airport and we hugged for what seemed like forever. He told me how proud of me he was and that I needed to keep doing whatever it was I had been doing because it was working for me. I told him that without him in my life I don't know if I'd be the same person. It was emotional, but hopeful. He planned to move to LA which is where I was going to be moving after graduation. We said our goodbyes for the last time. "See you in LA!"
A couple months later I got a phone call from my friend Travis. He informed me that Todd had passed away in his sleep the night before from unknown causes. I broke down. I had been so excited about our paths meeting up again in LA and everything we talked about. His future. My future. I just couldn't believe it. Days later I would realize how fortunate I was to have gotten to see him one last time.
The lessons that Todd taught me in our short time together will remain with me forever. He taught me how to love myself for who I am. To live life to it's fullest. To never take a day for granted. Todd is the reason I am the confident person I am today. When times get tough and I think about giving up, all I have to do is think about Todd and how much faith he had in me being able to achieve anything I wanted. This is why I think of Todd as my "Guardian Gayngel".
