How about some adorable penguin feet for #ToeTuesday? And a bonus #AnimalFact too: Did you know that penguins can walk on ice & swim in ice-cold waters yet their feet never freeze? This happens because arteries in the penguin's leg can adjust blood flow to maintain foot temperatures above the freezing point. So how about the African penguins? They deal with warm pebble beaches & warm nesting sites. Well the same temperature adjustments occurs as the cold climate penguins, just in reverse if needed. Pretty cool, huh!? (at San Diego Zoo)

Yep. You knew this was coming... Tiger toes for #ToeTuesday! You have to admit, even at an estimated 6 to 7 weeks of age this "little" cub already has an impressive set of claws. These sharp hooked claws serve young tigers well. As they grow; climbing, practice hunts and wrestling are all part of life. How about some monarch caterpillar feet for #ToeTuesday? As you watch these little ones climb you'll notice the first few set of feet (called true legs or thoracic legs) clasp the stem and the remaining feet (called prolegs or abdominal legs) act more like suction cups! I could use a dose of #cute today, how about you? Thus, I'm featuring one of the #cheetah cubs for #ToeTuesday. You may know this #AnimalFact or you may not... Cheetahs are the one cat species that does not have retractable claws. Although the cub's toe-nails look more like the nails of a smaller cat, narrow and hooked (good for grabbing and climbing), adult nails are different. As adults, the nails are used more like cleats, much thicker and not as hooked. And because they are not retractable the ends hit the ground and tend to be blunt, or at least not as sharp as other cat's claws. #WildlifeEducation
