hi!! someone probably asked the question already but if you don't mind sharing, what was the Bonfire Night? After reading Toffee Apples (which was amazing btw), I tried looking around but I didn't find much. I would love to know what it was for more context so I could appreciate the fic more! Thank you!

In Britain, Bonfire Night is the night of November 5th. People remember Guy Fawkes' failed plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament by building bonfires and lighting fireworks.

I think Bonfire Night is also celebrated in other countries; I'm reasonably sure it's celebrated in (parts of?) the US, for instance. But perhaps the historical back story is different. [Update: I was mistaken about the US. Sorry about that! I don't remember (ha) where I heard that Bonfire Night was a thing there; it might have been in a dream.]

I'm not a Brit myself*. On top of that, I never celebrated any kind of Bonfire Night in my life, so once I decided to set the story on Bonfire Night, I knew I had to do some "research." This led me to footage of people celebrating Bonfire Night in England in 1961, which was when I came across the toffee apples as a popular treat, and embarked on a toffee apples recipe side quest. I also embarrassed myself by asking friends if it would be possible to build the neighborhood fire in the back garden of 20 Forthlin Rd. There go Jim's lavender and Paul's iconic teenage angst chair!

Bookofapril had the idea of setting the story on Bonfire Night; I only knew it had to be after John and Paul's trip to Paris, and ideally before Brian "found them." November 5th turned out to be perfect.

I mean, I don't know what Guy Fawkes would have thought about the Beatles, let alone John and Paul's activities in the overgrown clearing that night, but the idea of fireworks, exploding from the dark, on the verge of fame, "to the top, Johnny": it all felt so right.

This was probably more context than you were asking for, I hope I didn't over-lecture, especially since I'm in no position to do so, really. My personal communal bonfire experiences center on Easter, which is a totally different vibe (bunny teeth being the only tentative link, maybe). But I hope this is useful.
