You couldn't help but settle back into him and smile right back. His skin was hot against yours as he pressed the entire length of his body against you. His voice lost its playful edge as he continued. "I know you never met my dad, good riddance. But...growing up, everyone said I was the spitting image of him. Al's kid, Junior, I heard it all. And for the longest time I thought...I thought that every bad thing my pops had done was practically etched into my skin, the way that everyone treated me. Just because I was his kid."

"Actually, that's a terrible deal. How about I just buy you a six pack once we're done with this adventure? I'm also getting us pizza." Jeff didn't hesitate to accept such a fortuitous offer.

Not for long, but long enough that the image of an ant under a magnifying glass flickers through Eddie’s mind before the corner of her mouth twitches. “We're just simple bards, no curse work to be feared from us,” he adds before her eyes leave him again. “Can you please stop scaring the bards, Rhea?” Izzy grunts, stretches her leg past a chuckling Beth and kicks Rhea in the shin.
