I met with the executives at Pay-Less Supermarkets this week regarding consistently better organic fruits and vegetables, especially the "Dirty Dozen". They will try to accomodate in several weeks. It seems like 2012 will be an apocalyptic year for healthcare on Guam. Beyond insurance scandals and fears, there is food. Food will be on the menu of items that will have to be addressed as part of a more aggressive preventive healthcare strategy. An organic agricultural program that is seriously supported by this government, through the targeted multi-lateral programming of resources would not only boost local agriculture, but also diversify the island's food distribution network benefiting the health and wallets of consumers. Even existing food outlet points in the distribution system would benefit by having economically feasible access to a reliable supply of local fresh and/or organic produce. Making organic and fresh foods accessible is key to a successful Guam-based fresh and conscious food program with multidimensional benefits.
