“Iyaz is gone,” was what Madi said first, before hello, before anything else, to make sure this went in directions she wanted this to. She just wanted to make sure Emre was going to be okay, and wanted to make sure Tomas was aware of everything that was going on. He could probably help Emre better than she ever could, anyway. So she’d let him know and then leave and that would be that.

She might have felt a bit guilty because Emre asked her not to tell anyone, but Tomas needed to know about it.

“He-- he walked into the Heart Tree’s fire. He realized Peter in the groove wasn’t Peter and somehow got convinced that he needs to go in there to find him, which he did, while Emre partly watched partly tried to stop it. And he’s been-- well, you can imagine how he’s been doing ever since. And got it into his head that the best way to deal with all of this is if he tells everyone that Iyaz is sick. So that’s-- that’s why Iyaz is out. Just-- thought you’d need to know.”

“It’s going to be just a bit further ahead, I swear, it’s-- oh, don’t look at me like that,” Tamyra said, giving Tomas a look. “I know, I know, you hate the train and hate being here, but please remember that you love me and the faster we can open that stupid hatch and get whats under it, the faster we can get out of here and enjoy the fruit of our labor.”

She found what seemed to be a secret compartment but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t pry it open, so naturally she turned to Tomas for help. And naturally, she came with a frown on his face.

Finally they arrived to the compartment of the train she was aiming for (maybe she got up onto the wrong compartment first, everyone can make a mistake like that, not that she was so ready to admit it out loud) and she went over to a pile of rubble and started pushing it aside. “It’s under this. I put all this shit over it so nobody would think to look at it and get to the treasure before us.”
