MARBLE SERIES by Tom Hegen

Marble from Spain and Italy are world-renowned for it’s creamy, snow white texture and flawless quality. Michelangelo sculpted most of his statues from marble extracted in Carrara, Italy. This stone has also been used in the construction of Siena’s cathedral, St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and Marble Arch in London. Most of us know marble mainly as a final product in the chain of consumption – in hotel lobbies, altars, washbasins and tiles.

Op foto 1 is te zien hoe de lagen marmer aan het afbrokkelen zijn. Enkele stukken liggen al op de grond. Er zijn vrschillende scheuren te vinden in het steen. Ook zijn er bruine blekken ontstaan door verwering/erosie. Vergelijken met de vrachtwagens op de foto kun je zien dat de berg kilometers hoog is.

Op foto 2 zie je kabels die gebruikt worden om veilig marmer te kunnen extruderen. Deze zijn door mensen neergezet en contrasteren met het witte marmer. Deze doen me heel erg denken aan de kabels die ik gebruik om het nepplafond op te hangen.

Op foto 3 zijn scherpe hoeken te zien die door de mens gecreëerd zijn. Deze zijn het tegenovergestelde van de organische vormen die de rotsen hebben van zichzelf.

Op foto 4 vormen de wegen een soort labyrint.
