JOKE-OGRAPHY: In this Bible story, Jesus decides to stay at the house of the tax-collector, Zacchaeus, who has repented of his greedy ways.  Some onlookers wonder why someone as holy as Jesus would stay at a sinner's house.  In this cartoon, Jesus says that, if He couldn't stay with sinners, He'd have to live with His mom forever (because Catholics believe that Mary was sinless).  He says this as if it would be a bad thing, so when He catches sight of His holy mother eavesdropping from behind a nearby house, He quickly amends His statement so He doesn't hurt her feelings.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is yet ANOTHER Tomics Resurrection, where an old comic that has long suffered the cruelties of time is sent to the pasture to be... taken care of... while a new comic takes its place!  Here's the old version for comparison:

Jesus is trying to go on a tangent, and not the mathematical kind.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. In the Bible story this cartoon is based on, the Pharisees complain that Jesus eats with sinners, so Jesus tells them a parable.  If you were a shepherd and lost one sheep out of a hundred, would you leave the ninety-nine in the pasture and seek out the lost one?  If you had ten coins and lost one, would you search your house until you found your missing money?  Jesus is saying that God seeks out the lost to bring them home, even if the Pharisees see that as a waste of time and effort. 2. In this cartoon, when Jesus starts the coin parable, one of the Pharisees cuts Him off, thinking that Jesus is introducing a word problem like in math classes.  These usually go something like, "If Johnny has three apples, but then gives Sally one, how many apples does Johnny have?"  So when Jesus says, "If you had ten coins and lost one," this mathematically-minded Pharisee thinks the next line is, "How many coins would you have?" but it's not, so he ends up looking FOOLISH.
