Happy (almost) feast day of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the most remarkably unremarkable saint!

JOKE-OGRAPHY: Also known as St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, she's another young female saint, but unlike some of the others I've done cartoons about, she didn't torture herself, fast herself to death, or get murdered for her beliefs.  Apparently, Thérèse led a very normal life, though she died young of tuberculosis.  She was an emotional little girl who was eventually inspired to join a convent, and while she was much younger than was normally allowed, her persistence got her accepted.  Her dedication to showing love in the smallest details of everyday life has led some to say that she, more than many lofty theologians, rediscovered the Gospel, and in the simplest way.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: In this Bible story, Jesus decides to stay at the house of the tax-collector, Zacchaeus, who has repented of his greedy ways.  Some onlookers wonder why someone as holy as Jesus would stay at a sinner's house.  In this cartoon, Jesus says that, if He couldn't stay with sinners, He'd have to live with His mom forever (because Catholics believe that Mary was sinless).  He says this as if it would be a bad thing, so when He catches sight of His holy mother eavesdropping from behind a nearby house, He quickly amends His statement so He doesn't hurt her feelings.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is yet ANOTHER Tomics Resurrection, where an old comic that has long suffered the cruelties of time is sent to the pasture to be... taken care of... while a new comic takes its place!  Here's the old version for comparison:

Jesus is trying to go on a tangent, and not the mathematical kind.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. In the Bible story this cartoon is based on, the Pharisees complain that Jesus eats with sinners, so Jesus tells them a parable.  If you were a shepherd and lost one sheep out of a hundred, would you leave the ninety-nine in the pasture and seek out the lost one?  If you had ten coins and lost one, would you search your house until you found your missing money?  Jesus is saying that God seeks out the lost to bring them home, even if the Pharisees see that as a waste of time and effort. 2. In this cartoon, when Jesus starts the coin parable, one of the Pharisees cuts Him off, thinking that Jesus is introducing a word problem like in math classes.  These usually go something like, "If Johnny has three apples, but then gives Sally one, how many apples does Johnny have?"  So when Jesus says, "If you had ten coins and lost one," this mathematically-minded Pharisee thinks the next line is, "How many coins would you have?" but it's not, so he ends up looking FOOLISH.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: Naaman is the name of the commander who Elisha heals.  When Naaman offers Elisha a gift for healing him, Elisha declines by saying "Naa, man," which is like "Nah, man," (as in "no"), but spelled like Naaman's name, which is Naaman.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. Of course, the most obvious choice for this parody's star is St. Paul, formerly known as Saul before his conversion on the road to Damascus.  For those who don't know, Saul is on his way to continue persecuting early Christians when Jesus appears to Him on the road and has a few words with him.  Saul is thrown from his horse and blinded during the experience, but eventually he gets his sight back, converts, starts going by Paul, and becomes one of the most influential people in the developing Church. 2. If any of you have read the now-sold-out-and-unattainable "Ultimate Catholic Comic Book" from 2017, you might remember that the supremely talented Jason Bach had this same idea in one of his cartoons featured in said book, so consider this my version of a joke that was originally his.
