no offense, but who on earth is the target audience for tommy’s videos now?
he recently released a video about taking different online tests and its… not tasteful.
he took different tests like the autism test and lgbtq tests.
it feels like he’s just attempting to pander to the majority of minorities in his fandom since his fandom has a large percentage of autistic and lgbtq+ fans. but that doesn’t have any soul. genuinely who on earth are these videos for?
videos like these just feel like he’s attempting to capitalize on the people who run his fandom, austistic people and lgbtq+ people. the issue is that nothing is gained from this. he’s baiting his own fans for views with the suggestion that he might be like them and holding it out like a carrot on a stick.
questioning his sexuality? fine. but constantly talking about it in order to get monetary value? it doesn’t strike me as right.
that was already not looking good to me, but bro trying to profit off the AUTISM TEST? HELLLL NO. i feel like i can’t possibly be the only person that sees this as performative and scummy for views.
I feel like criticizing Tommy for what he said yesterday is fair, because even IF you believe dream is innocent you shouldn’t joke about a situation like that, and unfortunately the fact that Tommy tends to not think before he speaks is a flaw of his that he needs to work on. However people demanding once again that ccs drop dream are going to be disappointed, because the sad reality is that even people and ccs outside the fandom for the most part either don’t take it seriously/aren’t even considering it or they’re waiting for more information to take a stance and I’m sure the three past false allegations on other ccs don’t help either, so unless dream is proven 100% guilty nothing is going to change. Personally, if any ccs that I like make content with dream I’m simply not watching it, but I’m not gonna let a potential piece of shit ruin the stuff that I enjoy and bring me comfort especially since I can’t control who ccs are friends with and I never particularly liked him anyway.
Technoblade and Tubbo were treated like NPCs, and not as people, by both their allies and the viewers at the festival.
A general overview of events: Schlatt discovered Tubbo was a spy for Pogtopia, held a festival to execute him under the guise of a grand celebration, and forced Technoblade to do the deed for him, thus introducing mistrust into the organization. Tommy and Wilbur, their allies, stood on the sidelines watching the entire confrontation but failed to help.
Let's start with Tubbo. Tubbo was the spy for Pogtopia. He was the one that was murdered up on the festival stand. He was reassured by both Wilbur and Tommy via whispers in the chat that nothing would happen to him, that nothing would go wrong up on that stage. He paid for this with one of his three canon lives.
Afterwards, although angry at Techno at first, he quickly grew to understand Techno's side of the story, explicitly forgiving him soon after. This could also be to calm the discontent growing rampant through their ranks, but he forgives Techno in front of the others regardless.
Both Wilbur and Tommy show little to no acknowledgment of the validity of Tubbo's forgiveness, and Tommy in particular continues to be actively hostile despite the fact that he did nothing to stop Tubbo's execution. He ignores Tubbo's agency in his decision to forgive Techno, and ends up dying (noncanonically) as a result, due to their fight in the Pit. He acts as if Tubbo's feelings aren't valid, and aren't a factor despite the fact that he was the one the wrongdoing affected, not Tommy.
The fandom often reacts the same way that Tommy does, either ignoring that Tubbo forgave Techno or directly putting words in Tubbo's mouth that he never said. Interpreting people's actions in a way not shown in canon, such as saying Tubbo never truly forgave Techno, in a fanfiction is fine, but using that in an analysis is another.
Looking at Technoblade, we can see a few more examples. Tommy and Wilbur completely ignore the fact that he has both feelings and faults.
At the festival, while constantly sending messages of reassurance to Tubbo, Techno recieves no orders. He stalls as long as he can roughly over five minutes, likely waiting for a rescue or a plan, but no one comes. Wilbur and Tommy assume that he knows what to do, that he would come pre-programmed with a brilliant plan of escape like a machine that can calculate actions perfectly, and without fault. Tommy constantly insists afterwards that Techno could have killed everyone on the stage and escaped with Tubbo, ignoring the fact that Techno is a person, not a god with limitless powers.
While it may have been possible, Techno was scared and unsure of his abilities at the time. He had even remarked earlier that his rocket launcher was a prototype, and he was unsure of its capabilities. Tommy insists that Techno could have just flown out of the situation, despite the fact that it was not physically possible, as he can only due so in the rain. (This also ignores the fact that, had he escaped, he would have left Tubbo to die nonetheless.)
Tommy ignores all concept of emotion (mainly anxiety, fear) or error (believing he could win against an army without an issue), essentially dehumanizing him. Tommy and Wilbur are scared that he is a weapon and they don't know who might be pulling the trigger, them or Schlatt, again ignoring that he is a person with opinions, emotions, and relationships, not an object that can be passed from side to side and cast away if it malfunctions.
When Techno goes along with Wilbur's idea to fight Tommy in pit (which they mutually agree to) in order to cease the conflict between them, Tommy ignores this as well and continues to yell at him, once again ignoring his words and feelings on the matter.
Wilbur, of course, does nothing except provoke Tommy during the entire encounter, showing little to no concern or care for either Tubbo or Techno throughout the entire confrontation.
(This is not even mentioning the fact that Wilbur, Tommy, and Tubbo would have willingly left Techno to die in L'Manburg had Wilbur found and pressed the button).
All of these arguments are ones that I have heard from the fandom as well as the characters. I find it ironic that while one of Techno's main themes is dehumanization and the concept of personhood, the struggle to be seen as a valid person, that while conducting analysis, the fandom largely discards any thoughts, feelings, or emotion he has in any situation, which is one of the classic signs of dehumanization. He is expected to know the best course of action in every situation and carry out those plans perfectly, mechanically. He oftentimes isn't even considered a person by the audience.
To summarize, both Tubbo and Techno's expressed feelings regarding the festival were largely ignored and invalidated by both the characters and the audience, even though they were the ones most heavily affected by the events. They are treated as NPCs, vehicles for a plot instead of fellow allies, or as people.
so sad to me that tommy not only liked fanart of the finale he made that completely invalidated abuse victims but also entirely redirected attention successfully to him having a gf and now will never have to address both him creating a violently unsafe space for abuse victims and him platforming a possible groomer bc nobody will hold him accountable for it anymore
I've been debating making this because this is definitely not what my blog is known for and I was worried that people wouldn't want to see it, but with the amount of shit im seeing on twitter it's compelled me to make this because I'm so frustrated.
I feel like I could make 100 posts about 'Cancel Culture' and it wouldn't be enough, so I'm just going to focus on what caused me to write this tonight - the Tommy situation. *Warning for a VERY long post below*
controversial take (u don't have to post if u don't want) but lately beeduo streams (and even to an extent benchtrio streams) have felt kinda forced and awkward from the perspective of a tubbo only enjoyer. I feel like people shut him down a lot (especially rboo these days). so I'm grateful that he gets to mess around and be himself with other friends from the bearsmp / sam on the dsmp because it is so much more enjoyable to watch then people "jokingly" getting annoyed at him
no i agree. i completely agree. i feel like lately this weird bit of "tubbo is annoying and everyone wants him to shut up" is going around with ranboo and partially with tommy and other streamers as well and they do it by either shutting tubbo down immediately or acting annoyed enough that he shuts his bits down by himself
i don't mean it in like, a parasocial or a "omg i'm so worried abt tubbo" way bc it's a bit and they're friends and we know nothing about their actual friendships bc we're not parts of it, but all of that really upsets me because i just genuinely enjoy tubbo's bits. like, i think he's one of the funniest, smartest, most genuinely incredible streamers (which is why he's my favorite streamer), and seeing his bits get shut down is like- uh. i wanted to hear that. LIKE LMAOOO I WANTED TO HEAR WHAT HE HAD TO SAY I WANTED TO WATCH THE BIT WHY ARE YOU MAKING HIM BE QUIET. I WANT TO HEAR HIM. HE'S FUNNY. LET HIM SPEAK DKJNKSBDFK YK??? YEAH
and idk it just feels very awkward, as you said. and it also upsets me a bit because like- as someone who has been called annoying/irritating/too talkative/too loud/insufferable my entire life, seeing someone else get that type of treatment just all the time, even if through a bit, is a bit upsetting, i guess? i just don't like it which is why i've been enjoying tubbo's solo streams a lot more than his streams with ranboo and i oop-
honestly the bear smp has been such a breeze of fresh air as a tubbo enjoyer like- for one, the people there aren't used to him which makes their interactions just a thousand percent funnier + they just so obviously and genuinely enjoy his company and his presence it's. so refreshing, i guess. they let him do whatever he wants and play along with his bits and when he apologizes for speaking too much or being too loud or being too much or being annoying all of them just tell him it's fine, he's funny, no problem, and it feels. very comfy. also being limitless like that makes tubbo's bits even more hilarious which i didn't think was possible
ALSO!!!!!! AIMSEY!!!!!!!!!! HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH AIMSEY I SWEAR TO GOD IT'S SO FUN TO WATCH. THEIR FRIENDSHIP IS JUST SO INCREDIBLE OKAY. aimsey and tubbo are a tad similar in some ways i believe and watching them interact is just the best, they bounce off each other so well and she's quickly going up my list of favorite streamers bc even when tubbo isn't with her her vibes are just IMMACULATE. bear smp i love you <3 LMAOOO IT'S JUST GREAT IT'S GREAT
anyways yeah anon you're valid and i feel the same sekjfnksjf oops
send me a hot take!!!
I hope someone sits Tommy down, face to face, and explains to him how his grooming jokes are harmful. How his apologies for jokes like that, if he keeps making them, will mean less and less each time. Adjacent to the boy who cried wolf. And this goes for his other jokes, like ones that are low-key or high-key sexist too. And I hope whoever sits him down goes to extra step and explains to him exactly how his jokes hurt actual victims.
