this tweet is how i sound whenever i get overly emotional about tommy and start re-explaining the entire plot in full and how pete townshend was actually a genius ahead of his time but also please for the love of god do not watch this movie ok. ok

#at the end of the day pete was just a man with an idea #but still i need people to understand how ahead of its time this film was #not by a super long shot (disability is still treated. oddly. not just by the people around tommy but the story itself duhhh)#also the equally dehumanising positive stereotypes applied to disabled people/superpower trope that this film flirts with isn't great #but you really need to see it to appreciate it #I mean we have a film centred on a disabled kid in the same movie with tina turner screaming the g slur while running around in stilletos #like. it does feel a little groundbreaking for the 70s #that being said this was a pretty bad movie #seeing paul nicholas in action was a fun treat though #pete townshend #roger daltrey #tommy walker #tommy 1975 #the who #rock opera #classic rock #1970s #pinball

Big Brain: if in the Tommy movie, Tommy Walker was born in the closing months of the Battle of Britain, and he's 20ish by the end of the story, then Tommy actually ends around the same time that Quadrophenia takes place.

Bigger Brain: At the end of Quadrophenia (or at least, the movie adaptation), Jimmy Cooper (probably) realizes that the mod movement isn't going to solve any of his problems. However, it's very possible he doesn't learn the whole lesson that blindly following leaders and trying so damn hard to "fit in" with the scene and movement of the time is never going to work; he could just as likely blame the mod movement itself and jump onto another bandwagon instead.

Biggest Brain: After the events of Quadrophenia, Jimmy Cooper could very well have turned around and become a Tommy Walker superfan and end up as one of the followers who turns on him at his Holiday Camp.
