I was just watching the Live footage from Congress of Trump's second impeachment process and my niece asked me a question about why I was watching it.

So I had to explain the racism in America, the way Congress works, what Capitol Hill is in American politics (aka Houses of Parliament) and what Tonald Drump said to his fans on Jan 6th and what happened as a result.

I told her about the officer who led away the insurrectionalists to protect the Congressmen and Congresswomen who were still in the Chamber.

I told her why the sight of a black man running from white racists and neo-nazis was so scary.

I told her how brave that man was and how scared he must have been because of the history of America and how black people were hanged by white racists.

I told her that the people who support Tonald Drump would hate the people in her school class who aren't white and aren't Christian and that they're bullies with guns and hatred in their hearts.

I told her all of this because she asked. She's 8 years old and she was curious. At 8 years old, she said that The Big Egg (what she calls him) was not nice, not okay, and that he shouldn't be allowed to be President because of his actions.

She's 8 years old. Eight.

If she can understand that it's not okay to hate others, that it's not okay to tell terrorists to March On The Capitol, that you shouldn't try and hurt people, that guns are Bad and Dangerous, then why, oh why, can't fully grown adults understand the same.

Tonald Drump is a cancer but he's the visible aspect, the bit that finally shows up on the scans. Democracy and civil rights are the chemotherapy. America needs treatment.

An eight years old, learning disabled child understands this truth better than people five times her age. There is no benefit in hate except in destruction.
