My REAL Acceptance Speech
What’s going on world?! Tone Kapone checking in..it’s definitely been a whirlwind these past few days and I wanted to fully express everything I wanted to say. I hope you take the time out to read this full post.
I’ve been putting in a lot of work on the Tampa Bay Music Scene over these past few years and I was recognized for my Hosting prowess as a nominee for Best Host in the 5th Annual Az1 Awards. It was a tough category with a lot of people I respect that are on their grind as well. When it was all said and done they called MY name as the winner! Truly a blessing and also refreshing to finally be acknowledged.
In the midst of my speech (which I tried to cut down because I had a lot to say) I failed to mention a few things so I wanted to merge those with my thoughts and blog it.
First things first, I stopped to give her a kiss but did not mention my Fiance and better half in my speech. She’s the reason I am able to do what I do and also my biggest supporter and fan. It doesn’t really need to be said but this is her award too. #TeamOmas
For two, When they called my name and I just sat there for a minute it wasn’t because I was surprised. I definitely felt like I was deserving of the award so I wanted to bask in the moment and take it all in. Let’s be clear, with all due respect I expected to win but was prepared for the defeat. I’m so used to coming in 2nd that it was amazing to be able to embrace the experience.
I wanted to make sure I mentioned the Powerline in general, but also put an emphasis on DJ Spaceship. Since he wasn’t nominated I wanted to make sure I did not just say his name but also honor him for being MY DJ of the Year. The asshole in me was going to throw a lil bit of shade but I decided to keep it chill lol. Sometimes I can’t help myself haha.
I wanted to make sure I told you all about the next few events, about Ignite The Night in general, and seize the moment since I had everyone’s attention and not everyone in the room actually knew who I was or what I’m about. (For the record: Ignite The Night R&B Edition 4/23, Ignite The Night 2 Year Anniversary 5/28). I also wanted to make a quick mention of our monthly show in St. Pete starting up JUNE 4 titled “The Elements.” The flyer for this will drop soon but I’ve got a helluva lineup for that one too!
One of the main things I wanted to do was stress to you all that in addition to being an Award Winning Host I’m an even doper Emcee. I wanted to let it be known that I have fun Hosting but that my Artistry should not be slept on at the same time. This was an emphasis for me and something I’ll be diving deeper into in a future blog I’m sure.
I had a few jokes planned out that I didn’t get to execute lol. I also wanted to show love to the Hosts of the Evening Jroc Jones and Autumn Blaze for doing an excellent job and being dope in their own right.
Overall I think I got my point across and I’m glad to be able to use a platform like Tumblr and www.tone-kapone.com to get the rest of my thoughts out into the world. I want to give Thanks to the Az1 Promotionz staff for the award and also the nomination alongside several talented Hosts. Az1 is a HUGE supporter of the Independent Scene and the fact that this is the 5th Awards show is a testament to them and their work!
And I was going to throw a couple of silly “Kapone Kwotes” in somewhere but I think it’s a good way to end this blog.
“I guess my price just went up!”
“Looks like I’ll be hosting the 6th Annual Az1 Awards!”
“Oh and if I’m correct..I believe that I am the FIRST-EVER Winner of this Award.”
